Oral pyogenic granuloma is a benign, reactive vascular lesion that commonly affects the oral mucosa and is often triggered by trauma or irritation, presenting as a friable, bleeding mass. A 30-year-old man presented with a recurrent, rapidly growing oral mass in the right maxillary posterior region, causing difficulty in chewing and spontaneous bleeding for one year. Two years subsequent to the extraction of the right maxillary second premolar, a lesion manifested and was subsequently excised through surgical means. One year ago, the lesion re-emerged and progressively expanded to encompass bo

RATIONALE: Intravenous pyogenic granuloma (IVPG) is a special type of pyogenic granuloma, and its preoperative diagnosis is difficult. We report a rare case of IVPG that develops in the lumen of the internal jugular vein (IJV). Here, we analyze the imaging characteristics of present case and summarize the imaging characteristics of previous reported cases.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 44-year-old man who presented with a growth in the IJV without any symptoms.
DIAGNOSES: A diagnosis of IVPG was made, based on the pathological examination after surgery.
INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent surgery to

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is an acquired benign vascular hyperplasia. Even though PG is not so rare, its etiology is still unclear. Assuredly, an association between vascular anomalies and PG is an extremely rare finding, and a proper management of these cases is not well standardized to date. Herein, we report our experience with a giant PG arising spontaneously within a port-wine stain of the thorax. Previous cases reported in the pediatric literature and strategies of treatment are also discussed.

RATIONALE: Oral metastases occur more commonly in bone, but can also manifest in soft tissues and eventually resemble a reactive lesion. Few cases of oral metastases mimicking reactive lesions in soft tissues have been reported to date.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We report a metastasis of gastric carcinoma (GC) to the oral mucosa without bone involvement in a 43 yom clinically and microscopically mimicking a reactive lesion. The patient related that the lesion had 1 month of evolution, and the ulcerated area suggested the lesion was related to trauma.
DIAGNOSES: The histopathological examination of t

Pyogenic granuloma, also known as lobular capillary hemangioma, is a benign vascular lesion of the skin or mucous membrane with rapid growth or repetitive trauma. Rarely seen in adult, its management varies and surgical intervention is usually common. We report a case of pyogenic granuloma of the right index finger in a 46-year-old gentleman who presented with painless swelling of the right index finger after a trivial injury. Wedge biopsy confirmed the diagnosis and excision of the granuloma measuring 3 cm × 3 cm × 2 cm was done with curettage and electrocautery over the base of granuloma. Th

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy-associated pyogenic granuloma (pregnancy tumour) is not uncommon. However, control of severe bleeding associated with the lesion by transarterial embolisation has never been reported.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 33-year-old pregnant woman (34 weeks gestation) who presented with a pregnancy-associated pyogenic granuloma of the mandibular gingiva with a life-threatening haemorrhage. The bleeding stopped soon after transarterial micro-embolisation and regressed after one month; thus, no further surgical excision was needed. The patient was free of post-operative wo

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common vascular tumor that can be treated using various means. However, some large lesions and those located on some difficult-to-treat body sites may represent a formidable selection to the clinician because of the residual pain after treatment, difficulties in surgical excision at one trial and covering with one dressing, and the risk of sequelae. We report a successful treatment of such a giant lesion that arises in the scar which was left because of port wine stain, using a Nd/YAG holmium pulsed dye laser.

Pyogenic granuloma is an overzealously proliferative non-neoplastic lesion of connective tissue origin, found commonly in oral cavity and is secondary to chronic low grade local irritation, poor oral hygiene, and hormonal disturbances. The term is misnomer because a lesion is unrelated to infection. It is characterized by excessive and exuberant tissue repair response with varied inflammatory component. Since it is a benign lesion, choice of treatment is surgical excision with removal of underlying cause if any. This article aims at presenting a case of pyogenic granuloma in an extremely old p

Acrometastasis is a rare occurrence, especially when affecting the hands. It represents around 0.007-0.2% of all metastatic lesions. The most common site of origin is the lung, accounting for 40-50% of all cases reported in the literature. Kidneys and breasts are other sites also associated with neoplastic lesions that disseminate to the hands. More rarely, the site of origin may be the gastrointestinal tract or other systemic tumors or sarcomas. Early diagnosis is difficult, since the condition may be asymptomatic or may mimic tenosynovitis, arthritis, paronychia, pyogenic granuloma or a loca

There are two histological types of pyogenic granuloma (PG) of the oral cavity: the lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) and non-LCH type. The aim of the present study was to examine and compare the clinical features, etiological factors, diameter of vascular elements and immunohistochemical features of LCH and non-LCH histological types of PG to determine whether they are two distinct entities. Thirty cases of LCH and 26 cases of non-LCH PG were retrieved and retrospectively studied. Clinically, LCH PG occurred more frequently (66.4%) as sessile lesion whereas non-LCH PG occurred as pedunculate

We report an unusual case of suburethral vaginal erosion and pyogenic granuloma formation 14 months after intravaginal slingplasty (IVS). A 64-year-old woman underwent IVS for recurrent stress incontinence 12 years after Burch colposuspension. Following seemingly uncomplicated surgery and recovery, she developed a recurrent urinary tract infection which was treated with antibiotics. When she presented with vaginal pain and postmenopausal bleeding approximately 14 months postoperatively, she was found to have suburethral vaginal erosion of the tape and a pyogenic granuloma. The exposed tape was

Oral complications occur frequently after bone marrow transplantation (BMT). Some of them are caused by regimen-related toxicity of the preparative regimen, and others by infections. In addition, oral tissues are targets of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Oral granulomatous lesions are not a common complication after BMT, and are especially rare on the tongue. Such rare lesions reported in the literature, developed late after BMT with oral chronic GVHD. We present here a patient who developed pyogenic granuloma of the tongue early after allogeneic BMT done for multiple myeloma. Regimen-relat

A 21 year old woman presented with multiple lobulated lesions on the labia majora. The surface of most of the lesions was ulcerated revealing a glistening surface. All lesions were excised. The histopathology revealed features suggestive of lobular capillary haemangioma (pyogenic granuloma). Pyogenic granuloma is considered as a reactive hyperproliferative vascular response to trauma or other stimuli. A literature search revealed reports of a few cases of lobular capillary haemangioma of the glans penis but not on the female genitalia. This case is presented to help physicians become aware tha

BACKGROUND: Intravenous pyogenic granuloma (IvPG) is a rare, benign lesion occurring usually as a subcutaneous mass in the neck or upper extremity. The cytologic features of IvPG have not been described before.
CASE: A patient presented with a subcutaneous nodule on the lower border of the left parotid area. The clinical diagnosis was bronchial cleft cyst or lymphadenitis, and the fine needle aspiration diagnosis was pleomorphic adenoma. The tissue section, however, disclosed IvPG.
CONCLUSION: Evaluation of subcutaneous nodules presenting cytologically as spindle cell lesions may be problema
