Occupational Balance, Quality of Life, and Recovery Among Older Mental Health Service Users-A Cross-Sectional Study.

Occupational balance is associated with better quality of life and recovery in mental health service users; however, research focusing on such relationships among older adults within this group remains scarce. This explorative cross-sectional study examined relationships between occupational balance and quality of life and recovery in 49 older mental health service users, while also investigating how anxiety/depression and living arrangement (cohabiting vs. living alone) influenced those relationships. Self-report questionnaires were used, then analyzed statistically. Participants generally pe

Occupational Health Screening Behaviors and Barriers Among Volunteer Firefighters: Results from a Cross-Sectional Survey in Texas.

BACKGROUND: Volunteer firefighters face occupational exposures that increase risks for cardiovascular disease, respiratory illness, mental health conditions, and cancer. Although the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends regular, comprehensive occupational health screenings, the standard lacks a clear protocol and implementation is voluntary; therefore adherence to these recommendations among volunteer firefighters remains unclear. This study examined occupational health screening behaviors and perceived barriers among volunteer firefighters in Texas. METHODS: An online, cros

Prospective Seroepidemiological Study of Hepatitis E Virus Infection in an Occupational Health-Checkup Cohort in Mie Prefecture, Japan.

AIMS: Reported cases of hepatitis E have increased in Japan; however, the true burden of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection is likely underestimated due to the high proportion of asymptomatic infections. We prospectively evaluated anti-HEV immunoglobulin G (IgG) seroprevalence, seroconversion-based incidence, and questionnaire-reported exposures in an occupational health-checkup cohort in Mie Prefecture, central Japan. METHODS: A total of 608 individuals (189 men and 419 women) who underwent annual health checkups between fiscal years 2023 and 2025 were included. Serum anti-HEV IgG was measure

Association of respiratory health with occupational exposures in the Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease (BOLD) cohort: a multinational longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Occupational exposures are contributors to chronic respiratory diseases, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where regulatory policies are limited. We investigated associations between occupational exposures and respiratory outcomes using longitudinal data from the Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease study. METHODS: We analysed data from 4237 participants across 17 sites, mostly in LMICs. Occupational exposures were assessed by self-report (never vs ever) and the ALOHA+Job Exposure Matrix for vapours, gases, dusts, fumes (VGDF), pesticides, solvents and metals

Identification of hidden subtypes in occupational health examinations and their biomedical characteristics using graph-enhanced deep representation learning.

PURPOSE: Occupational health examinations have long relied on conventional health classes to assess worker health status. However, individuals within the same examination class may differ substantially in risk sources, pathophysiological background, and potential progression patterns. This study aimed to determine whether stable hidden health subtypes exist beyond conventional occupational health classifications in a large real-world cohort and to evaluate the utility of graph-enhanced deep representation learning for subtype discovery and biomedical interpretation. METHODS: We included 63,98

Uncovering Pathways to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS): Presenteeism and Psychosocial Safety Climate in the JD-R-OHS Model.

Occupational health and safety (OHS) remains a critical concern, yet the psychosocial mechanisms linking job demands and leadership to safety behaviors and motivation remain underexplored within the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) framework. This three-wave longitudinal study extended the JD-R-OHS model to examine Psychosocial Safety Climate (PSC) and health-related work functioning, operationalized as presenteeism using the Stanford Presenteeism Scale (SPS-6), in relation to safety outcomes. Structural equation modeling distinguished pathways linking safety-specific leadership and job-family dem

Integrating an occupational therapist into a primary health care team: a mixed-method evaluation of a home-based service delivery.

BACKGROUND: Incorporating occupational therapists (OTs) into primary care requires adapting services to patient needs and depends on how colleagues within the multidisciplinary team perceive the OT roles and collaborate in daily practice. This study explored the feasibility, impact on the care team, and challenges of incorporating an OT into the home-based care service of a Spanish primary healthcare center. METHODS: A two-phase sequential exploratory mixed-methods study was conducted. First, structured interviews and a stakeholder focus group were conducted over the six months following the i

Occupational Benzene Exposure and Cancer Risk among Chinese Men: A Report from the Shanghai Men's Health Study.

BACKGROUND: Benzene exposure has been associated with increased risk of leukemia and other cancers; however, epidemiologic evidence is inconsistent for the latter, and confounding from smoking and alcohol was rarely adjusted. METHODS: We investigated associations between occupational benzene exposure and risk of leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and lung, stomach, liver, and kidney cancers in a population-based cohort of 61,377 men, ages 40 to 74 years. A job-exposure matrix, constructed by industrial hygienists specifically for the study population, was used to derive cumulative benzene exposure
