We present the case of a 37-year-old male patient with a multicentric myxoma admitted to hospital with dyspnoea, syncope and chest pain. Physical examination revealed a grade 3/6 systolic murmur at the left lower sternal border and diffuse bilateral lung rales. Transthoracic echocardiography and thoraco-abdominal computed tomography revealed a right atrial mass and a right ventricular mass obstructing the outflow tract. The patient underwent urgent surgical treatment. At operation, a solitary right atrial myxoma and a right ventricular myxoma originating from the tricuspid valve and attached t

A 36-year-old asymptomatic man, who two months before had a normal clinical examination, developed two loud, grade 5/6 harsh systolic and diastolic murmurs, audible over the entire precordium. Two-dimensional echocardiography revealed a huge tumoral mass, attached to the right atrium near the tricuspid valve, pedicellated and of great mobility, reaching the right ventricular outflow tract during diastole, and coming back to the atrium in systole. Right-sided angiography confirmed the diagnosis, and after ablation of the tumor, the auscultation was normal again. Two loud murmurs constitute a qu

PURPOSE: To investigate the predictive value of the cardiac substructures (CSs) dosimetric parameters for cardiac toxicity after definitive radiation therapy in locally advanced esophageal cancer.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: Between August 2010 and January 2016, 716 patients with stage 2-3 esophageal cancer receiving definitive radiation therapy at 2 institutions were divided into training (n = 432) and external validation (n = 284) cohorts. Dose-volume histogram parameters for the whole heart (WH) and CSs were extracted. Competing risks and Cox regressions analyses were performed. The predictive

Primary cardiac osteosarcoma is extremely rare, with all arising from the atrium, right ventricle, and cardiac valve, according to previous reports. We report a case of primary osteosarcoma of the left atrial appendage in a patient. We present a process of preoperative misdiagnosis, intraoperative confirmed diagnosis, and complete resection.

Of the primary cardiac tumors, well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma (WDPM) is very rare, with only one case report documenting WDPM of the pericardium. We report herein a 17-year-old boy who had an abnormal chest X-ray on a routine college-entrance examination. A giant cardiac tumor was detected by echocardiography. The neoplasm was partially resected, and histopathological examination revealed a WDPM. The patient recovered without any complication.

We report the case of a 67-year-old man who was found to have asymptomatic murmurs during his health check-up. Echocardiography revealed a mobile spherical mass in the left ventricle (LV), whereas magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study revealed a well-circumscribed heterogeneous mass in the LV with its base attached to the LV apex. To the best of our knowledge, such a case of hemangioma, particularly its rare location at the apex of the LV, and its asymptomatic conduction disturbance has not yet been reported in the medical literature. Because of successful surgical intervention, the patient i

The neurological complications secondary to embolism from atrial myxoma are reviewed. A patient with intracranial and skeletal metastases is described to emphasise the malignant potentiality of this tumour. A classification of atrial myxoma metastases is presented.

BACKGROUND: Left atrial myxoma during pregnancy is rare. We present three cases in order to aid in the management.
CASE PRESENTATION: Three cases of left atrial myxoma during pregnancy were presented in this article. Three patients all received multidisciplinary team work and acquired good outcomes. The case 1 had no symptoms and delivered before traditional cardiac surgery. The case 2 and case 3 undergone totally endoscopic minimally invasive cardiac surgery during pregnancy. The case 3 maintained pregnancy to term and gave birth to a healthy baby via vaginal delivery. No relapse of the tumo

Cardiac tumours are extremely rare. Most of the cases are diagnosed post-mortem.In this case, a tumour was found in a neonate during routine ultrasound screening in the first trimester of pregnancy. After birth, resection of the formation was performed and histologically confirmed as a cavernous haemangioma. Additionally, propranolol was prescribed in order to prevent relapse.

A pheochromocytoma is a rare tumor that develops from adrenomedullary chromaffin cells and produce ones or more catecholamines, including adrenaline, norepinephrine, and dopamine. On rare occasions a pheochromocytoma is hormonally inactive. Cyanotic heart disease is also a relatively rare pathology. One of its least frequently occurring variants is the single ventricle of the heart. Presumably, in patients with cyanotic heart defects, the occurrence of pheochromocytes and paragangliomas will be higher due to the presence of certain germinative and somatic mutations. In cyanotic heart defects,

We report a rare case of left atrial myxoma with concomitant classical Hodgkin's lymphoma in a 36-year-old woman with a non-significant medical history and 4 months of progressively worsening palpitations, dyspnoea on exertion, chest discomfort and fatigue. Outpatient echocardiography revealed functional mitral valve stenosis as a result of a large left atrial cardiac mass. Preoperative thoracic imaging revealed an anterior mediastinal mass with associated lymphadenopathy. The patient underwent successful resection of the anterior mediastinal mass and left atrial mass. Surgical pathology revea

Left atrial extension of pulmonary tumors through the pulmonary vein is most often associated with primary malignancies and is rarely associated with metastatic disease. We present the first, to our knowledge, reported case of a patient with a history of intracranial meningioma resections presenting with metastatic meningioma to the right lower lobe with extension into the left atrium through the pulmonary vein.

Tumours originating from cardiac tissues are rarely encountered during childhood, and fortunately most of these tumours are benign in nature. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour, which has unique clinical, pathological, and molecular characteristics, is a relatively new entity compared with previously mentioned tumoural processes originating from the heart. Most of the cardiac intima-media thickness patients are in the age group of 4 months to 17 years. This rarely seen tumoural process has not been subject of any specific research and the prognosis is not well known. Here we present the case

This case describes a 55-year-old lady presenting with lethargy, migraines and a cardiac mass on a background history of breast cancer. She had been treated initially with a mastectomy, axillary node clearance, reconstruction and hormone manipulation followed by chemotherapy and high dose radiotherapy for an isolated supraclavicular metastases. She was disease free for 5 years when she complained of lethargy and migraines. A CT confirmed an isolated cardiac lesion, confirmed on echocardiogram A percutaneous atrial biopsy revealed an atrial metastases from breast carcinoma. She was treated with

The clinical and radiographic appearances of four children with cardiac extension of Wilms' tumor and four cases from the literature are described. Four of the eight children were seen for "cardiac problems" and four for "routine" Wilms' tumor. In those "routine" cases, there were no clinical suggestions of inferior vena cava or cardiac extension. Preoperative screening for tumor extension may be crucial. However, because of the rarity of cardiac extension, it would be appropriate to screen patients by noninvasive methods such as gray scale ultrasound of the abdomen, echocardiography, or compu

BACKGROUND Atrial myxomas are benign cardiac tumors that can embolize and cause arterio-occlusive complications associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Recurrence after surgical resection is uncommon, and distant metastasis is exceedingly rare. We describe a young patient who concomitantly experienced 2 rare and serious manifestations of atrial myxoma: tumor recurrence after many years and cerebral metastasis. CASE REPORT A 33-year-old man with a history of left atrial myxoma resection at age 19 presented with sudden onset of right facial paresthesia and right arm weakness. Brain
