Mitral regurgitation is the second most frequent heart valve disease in Europe and the most frequent in the US. OBJECTIVES: To systematically review reported cases of second transcatheter aortic valve deployment within a previously implanted prosthesis (TAV-in-TAV).
BACKGROUND: TAV-in-TAV deployment is one of the rescue strategies undertaken due to an unsuccessful or suboptimal transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) result. BACKGROUND: To compare the late outcomes between mechanical and bioprostheses after isolated mitral valve replacement (MVR) in dialysis-dependent patients.
METHODS: A nationwide propensity-matched retrospective cohort study was conducted involving dialysis patients who underwent primary mitral replacement between 2001 and 2018. A 77-year-old woman who had undergone mitral valve replacement (MVR) with a 29 mm Hancock standard (H-S) bioprosthesis (Model 242) and tricuspid annuloplasty (Kay's method) at the age of 44 years was admitted urgently with acute heart failure. Echocardiography showed severe transvalvular leakage of the prosthesis and moderate tricuspid regurgitation. There is no report of four valve replacement surgeries in a woman during 15-year follow-up. A 23-year-old female was diagnosed at 7 years with rheumatic fever. She developed severe mitral regurgitation and at the same age a prosthetic valve was placed. Transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement (TPVR) is a safe and feasible procedure for treating pulmonary stenosis, failed right ventricular conduits, or failed bioprosthetic valves. The medtronic melody valve and the Edwards Sapien XT and S3 valves have been the main prosthetic valves used in TPVR. Using the GORE DrySeal sheath helps valve delivery and facilitates TPVR.
