The authors report acyclovir-induced alopecia in a patient treated for herpetic keratouveitis. A 32-years-old female was diagnosed with herpetic keratouveitis. She was placed on prednisolone acetate (1%) suspension four times a day, atropine sulfate (1%) thrice a day, and oral acyclovir 400 mg twice-daily. Three weeks following oral acylovir, keratouveitis improved, but she developed alopecia without any drug eruptions. Oral acyclovir was discontinued. Three months later, alopecia completely resolved. Alopecia may be considered a possible complication following oral acyclovir.

A boy manifested episodes of recurrent meningitis that were attributed to herpes simplex virus-2 infection. He presented no concurrent or previous history of involvement of the genitourinary system. PURPOSE: To report a case of lichen planus in a patient with a history of herpes simplex virus keratitis.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 60-year-old woman with chronic conjunctivitis and a history of herpes simplex virus keratitis was evaluated for irritation and a plaque on her right upper and lower eyelid palpebral conjunctivae. A surgical excision showed acanthosis and an underlying lichenoid infiltrate with a thickened basement membrane.
CONCLUSION: Lichen planus of the conjunctiva can be present in the absence of cicatrization in a patient with chronic irritation of the conjunctiva.

Herpes simplex hepatitis is a rare cause of acute hepatitis in immunocompetent patients. Herpes hepatitis presents with nonspecific symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea and abdominal pain. Elevated transaminase values with leukopenia, relatively low bilirubin level and mucosal herpetic lesions often provide clues to the diagnosis. We describe an immunocompetent woman with herpes simplex hepatitis presenting with multiple hypodense lesions in the liver and mucocutaneous herpetic lesions.

Cerebral ischemia has been proposed as the etiology of transient global amnesia. Recently, however, migranous and epileptic etiologies have attracted attention. A 56-year-old man had transient global amnesia and the next day began to display symptoms of meningoencephalitis. Herpes simplex encephalitis was diagnosed based on the titer of herpes simplex virus antibodies. The transient global amnesia appears to have occurred as an early sign of herpes simplex encephalitis and may have been provoked by an epileptic mechanism.

To assess the effects of herpetic infection on somatic sensations, herpes simplex virus type-1 was inoculated into the unilateral hind paw of the rat and its behavioral responses to noxious pressure and tactile stimulation were examined.
