BACKGROUND: Although there are considerable amounts of data on the outcomes of pediatric patients who have undergone Fontan repair, little is known about having Fontan completed in adulthood. The study presented the midterm results of our unit's experience with the Fontan completion procedure in adult patients with functionally univentricular hearts.
METHODS: Between 2014 and 2023, 16 adult patients underwent total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC) completion. Relevant information was retrospectively collected.
RESULTS: Sixteen patients with a median age of 19 years (18-21 years) were included

UNLABELLED: Early recognition of pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS) is crucial for optimizing clinical outcomes. Our goal was to characterize radiographic patterns specific to pediatric patients with PVS to facilitate early detection.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Pediatric patients with multivessel (≥2) intraluminal PVS were identified from a single-center registry. Initial chest radiographs were reviewed. Radiographic findings were summarized using frequencies and percentages for categorical data, and medians and ranges for continuous data. Interrater agreement was assessed using kappa statistics.

OBJECTIVE: Heart-lung transplantation for patients with pulmonary atresia and ventricular septal defect is challenging. The aim of the study was to present a single-center experience with heart-lung transplantation in this difficult group of patients.
METHODS: A retrospective review identified 9 patients aged 4.1 to 45.6 years (median, 25.4 years) with pulmonary atresia and ventricular septal defect who underwent heart-lung transplantation. Four (44.4%) patients had previous heart operations: 3 of them had palliative procedures (systemic-to-pulmonary shunts), and 1 had multistage correction.

OBJECTIVE: Risk factors for poor outcome with congenital complete heart block include prematurity, low birth weight, hydrops, low ventricular rates, and congenital heart disease. In this group, medical therapy is often ineffective, pacing is technically challenging, and mortality exceeds 80%. The purpose of this study is to assess outcomes of patients with congenital complete heart block who were paced in the first 24 hours after birth owing to the presence of known risk factors.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of patients with congenital complete heart block paced in the first 2

BACKGROUND: Although supraventricular tachycardia in complex congenital heart disease (CHD) has been reported after surgical repair, its exact electrophysiologic identification has been limited to intraatrial reentrant tachycardia (IART). Moreover, junctional tachycardia (JT) has not previously been described as a cause of late postoperative arrhythmia.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Since 1993, a total of 12 patients with congenital heart disease presented with paroxysmal focal JT. The patients with only typical immediate postoperative junctional ectopic tachycardia were excluded. Medical records, sta

Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA) with biventricular physiology is presumed to carry a favorable outcome. We aimed to explore the differences in associated diagnoses (including conduction disease), management and outcomes among prenatally vs. postnatally diagnosed ccTGA cases. Secondary objective was to examine outcomes in isolated ccTGA. An international, multicenter, retrospective cohort study was conducted in 29 tertiary hospitals (6 countries) from 1990 to 2018. Patients with a single ventricle, heterotaxy syndrome, or valvar atresia were excluded. Of 331 c

BACKGROUND: Stage 1 palliation (S1P) for hypoplastic left heart syndrome remains associated with high morbidity and mortality. Previous studies on burden of reinterventions did not include patients who remain hospitalized before stage 2 palliation (S2P). This study described the rate of reintervention during S1P hospitalization and sought to determine the impact of reintervention on outcomes.
METHODS: All participants enrolled in phase II of the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative after S1P were included in this study. The primary outcome was the rate of reinterven

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 can induce acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). In patients with congenital heart disease, established treatment strategies are often limited due to their unique cardiovascular anatomy and passive pulmonary perfusion.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the first case of an adult with single-ventricle physiology and bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt who suffered from severe COVID-19 ARDS. Treatment strategies were successfully adopted, and pulmonary vascular resistance was reduced, both medically and through prone positioning, leading to a favorable outcome.

Asplenia syndrome (AS) is a complex disorder that includes a variety of cardiovascular and gastrointestinal malformations (GMs), and its prognosis remains poor. We treated 40 AS patients between 2000 and 2010, 10 of whom underwent surgery to correct GMs. These comprised 7 hiatus hernias (HH), 1 intestinal malrotation (IM), 1 stomach volvulus, and 1 ompalocele. In this review, we consider the optimal surgical timing and methods of management, especially for HH and IM. Surgery was performed in 6 of 7 HH patients. Four of those underwent laparotomy, 1 thoracotomy, and 1 laparoscopy. The Toupet me
