A rare arteriovenous communication between left testicular vein with left accessory renal artery and multiple renal vascular anomalies: understanding the genetic and embryological perspective.

Vascular malformations are abnormalities of the vascular tree, either congenital or acquired, which may involve arteries, veins, capillaries, or lymphatic vessels. Congenital malformations, such as patent ductus arteriosus, may persist into adulthood, resulting in abnormal vascular communications. Acquired vascular communications may occur following trauma, such as gunshot or stab injuries, or after surgical procedures. Arteriovenous malformations are congenital disorders affecting the circulatory system during early developmental stages. Renal vascular variations are also relatively common, u

IgA heavy chain disease. A case detected in the western hemisphere.

IgA heavy chain disease (alpha chain disease) was detected in a 46 year old South American (Colombian) of mixed Spanish and Indian (Mestizo) descent. The clinical course was characterized by severe malabsorption, initially thought to be a variant of tropical sprue. Jejunal mucosal biopsy revealed marked villous atrophy with heavy infiltration of the lamina propria by a single monotonous cell type which, by light microscopy, had the appearance of either a large, abnormal plasma cell or a small histiocyte. Electron microscopy of the biopsy specimen demonstrated the presence of abnormal plasma ce

Neurovascular Dysfunction and Glymphatic Impairment: An Unexplored Therapeutic Frontier in Neurodegeneration.

Neurodegenerative diseases pose major clinical challenges partly due to the underappreciation of the brain's vascular and clearance systems. Evidence suggests that neurovascular dysfunction and glymphatic impairment are early contributors to disease onset, preceding established markers such as protein aggregation. This review synthesizes recent advances in understanding how disruption of the neurovascular unit (NVU) and glymphatic pathways contributes to neurodegeneration. We analyzed published literature documenting the temporal relationship between vascular dysfunction, glymphatic clearance

Gastroduodenal strongyloidiasis infection causing protein-losing enteropathy: A case report and review of the literature.

Strongyloides stercoralis is an intestinal nematode in which adult worms in the host small intestine can cause strongyloidiasis. Symptoms in immunocompromised patients might range from diarrhea and bleeding to sepsis and even death. A 56-year-old patient presented with a 2-month history of weight loss, vomiting, and diarrhea. The patient had type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and was on long-term prednisone for chronic kidney disease. The results of the gastric emptying test and head magnetic resonance (MRI) were normal. A blood test revealed increased IgE levels, eosinophilia, and hypoalbuminemi

Lymphoscintigraphy in angiomyomatous hamartomas and primary lower limb lymphedema.

PURPOSE: Angiomyomatous hamartoma (AH) of the lymph node is a rare vascular benign disease of unknown etiology with a predisposition for the lymph nodes of the inguinal area. Only 18 cases have been described up to now in the literature and the disorder was reported to be associated with lymphedema or swelling of the ipsilateral limb in 4 patients. However, scintigraphic investigation of the lymphatic system in these patients was reported in only 2 cases. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Five patients where the biopsy of inguinal nodes for suspected lymphadenitis led to the diagnosis of angiomyomatous h

Comparative analysis of a chemotherapy effect on the cuticular surface of Wuchereria bancrofti adult worms in vivo.

Wuchereria bancrofti is the main species responsible for human lymphatic filariasis and remains a major public health problem in tropical countries around the world. Diethylcarbamazine (DEC) has been used for decades in control programs as an effective microfilaricide, although its efficacy in killing adult worms is only around 50% and its direct mode of action is unclear. Recently, in an attempt to control and eliminate lymphatic filariasis, WHO has recommended albendazole (ALB), a broad-spectrum anthelminthic combined with DEC or ivermectin for mass treatment. Some studies have shown that DE

Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma (MEC) of Parotid Gland with Massive Cutaneous Involvement: Bilateral Pedicle Advancement Flap (U - Plasty) As Adequate Surgical Approach.

Neoplasms of the major and minor salivary glands are morphologically and a clinically diverse group of neoplasms which lead the clinician to diagnostic and management challenges. This article aims to report a case of mucoepidermoid carcinoma in 83 - year - old woman who presented in the dermatology clinic with a tumour mass in the left auricular area. The patient complained of pain and abnormal bleeding of the mass. The lesion was examined, and surgical treatment was performed. A tumour was extirpated, and partial resection of both the parotid gland and the sternocleidomastoid muscle was done.

Gorham-Stout Disease: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Gorham-Stout disease causes gradual bone loss (osteolysis) due to an abnormal overgrowth of lymphatic vessels. This rare disease is usually seen in younger people. The etiopathology of Gorham-Stout disease remains unclear. The disease is pathologically characterized by the proliferation of the vascular or lymphatic vessels and, finally, bone matrix destruction. These pathological changes lead to the presence of massive osteolysis on plain radiographs. Thus, plain radiograph findings may lead physicians to consider tumoral conditions, especially metastasis. There are several other conditions on

Tuberous sclerosis complex presenting as primary intestinal lymphangiectasia: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia (PIL) is a rare congenital protein-losing enteropathy caused by dysplasia of the small intestinal lymphatics. The cause of the disease is unknown. Through a literature review, we found that PIL and tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) have some common symptoms and molecular pathways. CASE SUMMARY: Here, we present the case of a patient with a three-year history of primary intestinal lymphangiectasia. The patient most recently visited the hospital with abdominal distension and swelling of the left leg. His mother told us that she was diagnosed with T

The Lymphangioleiomyomatosis Lung Cell and Its Human Cell Models.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a multisystem disease of women, affecting lungs, kidneys, and lymphatics. It is caused by the proliferation of abnormal smooth muscle-like LAM cells, with mutations and loss of heterozygosity in the TSC1 or, more frequently, TSC2 genes. Isolated pulmonary LAM cells have been difficult to maintain in culture, and most studies of LAM lung cells involve mixtures of TSC2 wild-type and TSC2-null cells. A clonal population of LAM lung cells has not been established, making analysis of the cells challenging. Cell lines have been established from angiomyolipomas, a co

Metastatic gastric cancer to the female genital tract.

Metastases to the female genital tract from gastric cancer are rare, but they significantly worsen the prognosis of such patients. The potential routes for metastasis to the female genital tract from gastric cancer include hematogenous spread, lymphatic spread and surface implantation. The rate of lymphatic metastasis to the ovary from gastric cancer has been reported to be higher compared with that from colorectal cancer. Uterine or Fallopian tube metastases are usually secondary to ovarian metastases, which are typically identified prior to the detection of gastric cancer in half of all sync

Assessment of the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems.

Assessment of the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems first requires a complete signalment, history, and general physical examination. Further assessment of the cardiovascular system begins with evaluation of the cardiac borders through palpation and thoracic percussion. Complete cardiac auscultation requires careful evaluation of several parameters. The location, intensity, and character of normal heart sounds are first determined. This is followed by assessment of heart rate and rhythm. Finally, special attention should be placed on identifying abnormal heart sounds and describing them base

Abdominal lymphangioma masquerading as a pancreatic cystic neoplasm.

Lymphangiomas are congenital abnormalities of the lymphatics that occur predominantly in the head and neck, most often in children. We present an unusual case of a middle-aged man who had a large septated cystic lesion adherent to the pancreas that could not be differentiated from a pancreatic cystic neoplasm despite analysis by ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, or percutaneous needle aspiration. The correct diagnosis was established only via laparotomy and subsequent pathologic interpretation. Although lymphangiomas are rare, they should be included in the different

Perfusion lung scan: an aid in detection of lymphangitic carcinomatosis.

Lymphangitic carcinomatosis is usually a late manifestation of metastatic disease. The patient usually presents with cough or dyspnea, and the chest radiograph is often nondiagnostic. Two patients are presented who developed symptoms while on adjuvant chemotherapy. Both had abnormal perfusion lung scans. One had matching ventilation defects; the other a normal ventilation study. Biopsy revealed metastatic carcinoma; in one case tumor was seen in both the pulmonary lymphatics and arterioles; in technique which can speed diagnosis and institution of therapy in lymphangitic carcinomatosis.

[Lymphatic malformations in childhood and adolescence].

CLINICAL ISSUE: Lymphatic malformations (LM) are congenital abnormalities of the lymphatic system and occur with an incidence of 1:6000-1:16,000 live births. Simple LMs manifest as soft-elastic space-occupying lesions, whereas complex LMs affect several organ systems and can lead to chylous effusions due to lymph leakage. In addition, LM can occur together with other vascular malformations or as part of overgrowth syndromes. Primary lymphedema is a special subgroup of LMs, which can first be clinically manifested in advanced age. DIAGNOSTICS: Imaging procedures are of great importance in the
