[Spindle-cell sarcoma in the mandibular area of a 5-year-old Holstein Friesian cow].

A 5-year-old German-Holstein cow was presented with a swelling of the head which had been present for 3 months. Clinical examination revealed a 15 × 20 × 15 cm firm mass on the right side of the head. The cow was lethargic, showed an extended head and neck posture, nasal stridor, mucopurulent nasal discharge, and inspiratory dyspnea with labored breathing. Furthermore, dysphagia as well as moderate to strong salivation were evident. Radiological examination revealed a diffuse, poorly defined mass with different densities overlying the bony structures of the skull. Endoscopic examination confir

Metastatic Breast Cancer in Medication-Related Osteonecrosis Around Mandibular Implants.

BACKGROUND: Many authors have considered dental implants to be unrelated to increased risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Nevertheless, more recently, more cases of peri-implant MRONJ (PI-MRONJ) have been described, thus becoming a challenging health problem. Also, metastatic cancer deposits are not infrequently found at peri-implant sites and this may represent an additional complication for such treatments. We present the case of a breast cancer patient with PI-MRONJ, presenting a clinically and radiologically undetected metastasis within the necrotic bone, and highl

Numb chin syndrome: a signal of underlying concern.

The purpose of this article is to present a case study of a patient with chin numbness and to review its relationship, through research, to possible underlying diseases and conditions. Mental nerve neuropathy, better known as numb chin syndrome, is a rare condition. Research suggests that there are a high number of cases where numb chin syndrome runs parallel with progression or relapses of metastatic cancer. Clinical presentation of numb chin syndrome is characterized by patient complaints of localized numbness to the mandible. Since this syndrome has been associated with serious conditions s

Peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma in a child: a case report.

Peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma is a gingival lesion of reactive nature and unknown etiology. Such a lesion can either interfere with normal tooth eruption or become a factor in plaque development, which usually results in caries formation in newly erupted teeth. Therefore, the objective of the present article was to report a case of peripheral cemento ossifying fibroma occurring in the mandibular posterior region of a 11-year-old girl in association with both absence of premolar eruption and presence of severely caried first permanent molar.

[Central odontogenic fibroma].

Odontogenic fibroma is an infrequent benign tumor, originating in the mesenchyma and including an inactive odontogenic epithelial component. The central form, of which one case is reported here, is expressed by a relatively well-delineated radiolucent area, whose interest and difficulty lie in the differential diagnosis. On the basis of a review of the literature, details are given on the clinical, clinicopathologic, diagnostic and therapeutic data.

Parathyroid carcinoma presenting with a brown tumour of the mandible in a young man.

A 27-year-old man presented to his dentist with a swelling in his lower jaw. Histology revealed this to be a brown tumour associated with primary hyperparathyroidism and severe but asymptomatic hypercalcaemia. A large parathyroid adenoma was removed and the serum calcium fell to normal. Hypercalcaemia recurred and re-exploration of the neck revealed parathyroid metastases in cervical lymph nodes. A modified radical neck dissection was performed and he has remained normocalcaemic on Vitamin D analogues for 2 years. Bone disease of the mandible is a very rare presentation of primary hyperparathy

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour of the mandible: an enigma unfolded.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour (IMT), also known as Inflammatory Myofibroblastoma, is a rare, benign yet aggressive lesion that often mimics malignancy. Histologically, it is composed of spindle-shaped myofibroblasts and chronic inflammatory infiltrates. Immunohistochemistry shows positive staining for smooth muscle actin and anaplastic lymphoma kinase, aiding in diagnosis.Typically found in the lungs, mesentery, and mammary glands, its occurrence in the oro-maxillofacial region is exceedingly rare. We present a case of an early-adolescent female with mandibular IMT, addressing the diagno

Fine-Needle Aspiration for Actionable Diagnosis of Mandibular Osteosarcoma Recurrence.

INTRODUCTION: Mandibular osteosarcoma (MOS) is a rare malignant bone tumour known for its rapid and aggressive behaviour, particularly in cases of relapse. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 48-year-old woman with recurrent MOS. Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) was utilized for diagnosis, facilitating prompt and appropriate treatment. The FNAC technique proved essential in confirming the diagnosis quickly, allowing for timely intervention. CONCLUSION: This case underscores the importance of FNAC in diagnosing MOS,

Complete spontaneous regression of a metastatic melanoma of the mandible: a case report and follow-up recommendations.

Regression of metastatic melanoma is very rare and occurs in only 0.23% of cases. Metastasis to the oral cavity is particularly uncommon and accounts for only 1-3% of all oral malignancies. This report presents a case of spontaneous and complete regression of a metastatic melanoma in the mandibular ramus. The patient remains asymptomatic more than 2 years after diagnosis. The patient was followed up regularly. It is recommended that further surveillance imaging be performed in asymptomatic patients following discussion with the surgical and oncological teams. This type of surveillance, togethe

Implant prosthetic rehabilitation of the patients with mandibular resection following oral malignoma surgery.

Patient underwent mandibular resection due to surgical therapy of oropharingeal malignoma. Facial asymmetry and cosmetic distortion are frequent consequences of such interventions, which may also include deviation and intrusion of the mandible, motor and sensory disorders, abnormal intermaxillary relations and malocclusion. Implant-supported prosthesis could be an optimal solution to prosthodontic treatment of such patients. However, there is a problem in determination of stable (interocclusal) intermaxillary relations. This article describes the choice of therapy and procedures undertaken in

Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor, mixed connective tissue variant, of the mandible: report of a case and review of the literature.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome that results in renal phosphate wasting with hypophosphatemia. In most cases, the underlying cause of TIO is a small mesenchymal neoplasm that is often difficult to detect, resulting in delayed diagnosis. One such neoplasm is the phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor, mixed connective tissue variant (PMTMCT), an unusual entity with unique morphologic and biochemical features. Most of these tumors are found at appendicular sites with only rare cases reported in the jaws. We describe a PMTMCT involving the mandible in a patient with a p

Congenital granular cell lesion "congenital epulis"--report of a case.

Congenital granular cell lesion (CGCL) or "congenital epulis" is a rare lesion of newborn also known as Neuman's Tumor, which is benign in nature, mostly occurs as a single tumour but rarely as multiple. The histogenesis and natural clinical history of the lesion remains obscure. Even with the advent of modem histopathological techniques, it has not been possible to depict specific cellular features unique to this lesion. This lesion arises from mucosa of gingiva either from maxillary or mandibular alveolar ridge. The appearance of the lesion is most common in maxillary alveolar ridge than man

Extraction site healing complicated by neoplasia.

Malignant melanoma arises from melanocytes, dendritic cells of neural crest origin. Melanocytes occur within the basal layers of the epidermis, mucous membranes, retina and uveal structures of the eye and the meninges. Rarely, they may also occur in the bladder, adrenal medulla and ovaries. These melanomas metastasise widely and metastases in the oral mucosa have been seen in about 3% of patients with cutaneous melanoma, and can complicate the healing of extraction sites. This paper presents a case of malignant melanoma of the mandible.

Mandible metastasis as the initial manifestation of breast carcinoma--report of a case.

A case is presented in which the only positive subjective and clinical findings were numbness of the lower lip and chin, generalized tooth mobility with dull pain, and swelling of the right lower jaw. After an appropriate and careful workup, in conjunction with other medical colleagues, a definitive diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of breast metastasis to the mandible was made, which was confirmed by a histopathologic examination. Radiographs disclosed radiolucent change with an irregular and a moth-eaten appearance in the mandibular trabeculation and loss of the lamina dura of several teeth. As th

Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumors: a clinicopathologic study of nine cases.

Nine cases of CEOT are reported. There are seven intra-osseous and two extraosseous tumors. All but one occurred in the mandible. The age range was 20 to 64 years; averaging 34.2 years. There were 7 females and 2 males. Radiographically, they appeared either as monocystic or polycystic translucent lesions with radiopaque spots or masses. Embedded teeth were seen in six cases. Microscopically, four different patterns are described. No recurrence has been found postoperatively within 2-14 years of follow-up study. The nature of the reddish homogeneous material, the histogenesis of the tumor and

Osteosarcoma Arising in Noonan Syndrome/RASopathy Complex: First Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Noonan syndrome (NS) is a developmental malformation condition in the RASopathies group, characterized by variable clinical and molecular features. The syndrome is genetically heterogeneous, with the most frequent mutation found in approximately 50% of cases occurring in the PTPN11 gene. NS is reported to be associated with neurogenic, hematopoietic, melanocytic and other visceral malignancies, but osteosarcoma development has not been reported in association with NS. CASE REPORT: Therefore, we report the first case of a male with NS who developed osteosarcoma of the mandible in a
