We present the case of a surgically treated 11-year old boy with a diagnosis of craniomaxillofacial fibrous dysplasia (CFD) in the maxillary sinus. When first seen in the outpatient clinic of our department he had minimal symptoms. After initial radiological diagnostics by computed tomography scans (CT-scans) the patient was treated operatively by radical excision of the tumor. Osteonecrosis of the mandible and the maxilla is known; however, aseptic necrosis of the maxilla after traumatic fracture is hardly reported. This case aims to help clinicians realize the need to closely follow up and treat such patients with trauma as it can lead to osteonecrosis of the bone and cause difficulty in daily activities. We have also carried out a thorough review of the literature to give a concise understanding of all disease processes that may lead to osteonecrosis of the maxilla. Such an article has not previously been published.

The frontal process of the maxilla occasionally shows a localized FD-like appearance. The purpose of this study was to determine its prevalence and findings on CT. This prospective study describes and evaluates a surgical approach for 3D reconstruction of the posterior maxilla with autogenous mandibular bone in 16 patients (mean age 51 years). Bone blocks were harvested from the mandible and used as lateral or vertical block grafts (onlay); they were also partially milled and used for sinus elevation (inlay). Esthetic complications due to nonharmonious peri-implant soft tissue profiles are common in the anterior maxilla, especially when 2 adjacent implants are found. This article suggests the use of a single implant to replace 2 lost adjacent teeth in this region and demonstrates the treatment with 2 clinical cases. The main advantage is preservation of the interdental papilla and gingival contours, compensating for the alveolar bone crest resorption at the platform of a second implant.

OBJECTIVE: Dental implants have gained popularity for treating edentulism, but some patients develop jaw atrophy, which leaves insufficient bone for implants. To treat these patients, the sinus lift procedure, which augments bone, was developed. Altered anatomy from this procedure has an unusual radiographic appearance, confusing those unfamiliar with it. We describe the sinus lift procedure and its radiographic appearance.
CONCLUSION: With knowledge of this surgery and some of its pitfalls, radiographs can be more easily and accurately interpreted.

The long-term results in 30 patients with maxillary atrophy who have been operated on using a horseshoe sandwich osteotomy and interpositional bone grafting are reported. The postoperative period ranges from 1-4 years. Lateral cephalometric X-rays, models and clinical investigations served to determine the resorption rate and the postoperative results. It could be shown that the vertical resorption rate amounts to 1.8 mm (20%) after 3 years. The sagittal resorption rate was about 1 mm with a wide individual range. Clinical investigation revealed satisfactory results in 28 patients.

This article presents two clinical cases of capillary hemangiomas of the maxilla. Such lesions are rare, as demonstrated by the review of the literature included in this article. The presentation, differential diagnosis, histopathology, management, and follow-up for each case are discussed. Our rationale for approaching these types of lesions, as well as our opinion that microembolization should be considered as a first line approach to treatment, is presented.

Two odontogenic keratocysts occurring in the anterior portion of the maxilla, an unusual location, are reported. In one instance, the clinical and radiographic features simulated a nasopalatine cyst. It is suggested that a likely origin for an odontogenic keratocyst in this location is the primordium of a mesiodens that fails to develop.
