OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to provide a description of pain and its relationship to the effects of polio, physical activity, and disability.
DESIGN: Assessment instruments used were: a pain questionnaire, a pain drawing, a visual analogue scale (VAS), a 30-m walk indoors, isokinetic muscle strength, serum creatine kinase concentration, the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly, and the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP).
SETTING: A university hospital department.
SUBJECTS: Thirty-two consecutive individuals with late effects of polio.

Heat-related illnesses include a spectrum of disorders ranging from heat syncope, muscle cramps, and heat exhaustion to heat emergencies such as heatstroke. Severe heatwaves can lead to extremely high environmental temperatures and a spurt of cases of heat-related illnesses and heatstroke. The incidence of such heat-related medical emergencies was much higher in 2024 compared to previous years throughout North and Central India. Here, we are describing a case series of five patients admitted to the intensive care unit of a tertiary care center in New Delhi during the month of June 2024.

In this paper, we present two women with hypokalaemic rhabdomyolysis in the context of increased diuretic intake and gastroenteritis, respectively. While their clinical manifestations and laboratory results were strikingly similar, two different underlying disorders were subsequently unveiled. PURPOSE: The objective of this meta-analysis is to compare clinical outcomes of tenotomy and tenodesis in the surgical treatment of long head of the biceps brachii (LHB).
METHODS: A literature search was conducted in Embase and PubMed from 2000 to April 2014. All studies comparing the clinical outcomes between LHB tenotomy and tenodesis were included. The quality assessment was done by utilizing the Coleman score. We included nine studies comprising 650 patients undergoing LHB tenotomy or tenodesis, mostly with concomitant shoulder pathology.

METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, serum vitamin D levels, biochemical and hematological factors were assessed in 382 healthy employed women. Demographic information was collected using a standard questionnaire and data was analyzed by SPSS software.

Muscle phosphorylase kinase b deficiency (PhK) is a rare disorder of glycogen metabolism characterized by exercise-induced myalgia and cramps, myoglobinuria and progressive muscle weakness. PhK deficiency is due to mutations in the PHKA1 gene inherited in an X-linked manner and is associated to glycogenosis type VIII (GSD VIII also called GSD IXd). Two patients with McArdle's disease within the same pedigree and with two different clinical forms are presented. The first patient suffered from progressive muscle weakness and atrophy. Muscle morphology was that of myopathy. Residual activity of phosphorylase was 28% and sodium dodecyl sulphate electrophoresis showed decreased protein. The second case was typical of McArdle's disease, clinically and biochemically. It was concluded that the first patient was a heterozygote (residual activity 28% of normal) and the second was a homozygote, the genetic transmission being autosomal recessive.
