Our study is devoted to 12 cases of NPF collated in the ENT department of the Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat from 1983 to 1990. All our patients were male, aged from 11 to 24, with late consultation for nasal obstruction and recurring epistaxis. The diagnosis suspected clinically was confirmed by angiography and a CT scan. Surgery of the tumour was the only therapy employed for all our patients. Surgery was preceded by embolization in 5 cases, which considerably reduced per-operative bleeding.

A case of painful ophthalmoplegia with unilateral ocular pain, fixed eyeball to all directions of gaze, and loss of vision is presented. After intensive steroid therapy, conjunctival chemosis subsided markedly, but no improvement was seen in other clinical signs. We took a CT scan of orbit brain and performed nasopharyngeal biopsy and open biopsy through craniectomy. Based on the results of clinical features and findings of the CT scan and tissues, we diagnosed painful ophthalmoplegia secondary to nasopharyngeal carcinoma metastasized to orbital apex and brain.

The incidence of carriers of Neisseria meningitidis was investigated in Borno State, an epidemic area for cerebrospinal meningitis and in Anambra State a non-epidemic area for this disease in Nigeria. A total of 6234 nasopharyngeal swabs was collected during a survey of the population of Stonehouse, Gloucestershire in November 1986 as part of an investigation into an outbreak of meningococcal disease. A case of neonatal teratoma of the nasopharynx associated with polyhydramnios and respiratory distress is presented. Surgical excision was carried out after preoperative evaluation with high resolution CT. Computed tomography is valuable in distinguishing a teratomatous tumor and in searching for intracranial extension and malignant characteristics.
