Chorea is a hyperkinetic movement disorder, accompanied by dystonia, myoclonus, tics, stereotypies, and tremors. It is characterized by excessive, purposeless movements that are distressing, irregularly timed, and randomly distributed. Chorea can be present in many diseases, such as hereditary, metabolic disturbance, drug-induced, and functional disorders, and, rarely, genetic, autoimmune, and infectious diseases. Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm that leads to ineffective clonal hematopoiesis, fibrous tissue deposits in the bone marrow, extramedullary hematopoiesis,

Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare malignant soft-tissue neoplasm of unknown histogenesis. The two main sites of occurrence are the lower extremities in adults and the head and neck in children. We report the first case of pleural ASPS occurring in a 58-yr-old man who presented with progressive dyspnea. A computed tomographic scan of the thorax revealed a large enhancing pleural mass with pleural effusion in the left hemithorax. Wide excision of the pleural mass was performed. Histologically, the tumor consisted of organoid nests of large polygonal cells, the cytoplasm of which had eo

Carcinoma cuniculatum is a rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma originally described on the sole of the foot and for a long time believed to be restricted to the skin. However, since its first description in 1954, several cases have been reported at other sites. Carcinoma cuniculatum characteristically invades the underlying subcutaneous, submucosal, or bone tissues, forming so-called "rabbit burrows," with crypts filled with keratin that are of utmost importance for distinguishing this neoplasm from other variants of squamous cell carcinoma. Oral carcinoma cuniculatum is an even rarer enti

In recent years, endoscopic endonasal techniques have been applied to the treatment of sinonasal malignancies. Comprehensive anatomical knowledge is essential to preserve oncological principles and minimize surgical morbidity. The bones that form the anterior cranial base are pneumatized and the sinuses provide surgical corridors for the endoscopic endonasal approach to the skull base. During endoscopic endonasal resection of sinonasal malignancies, usually, the intranasal portion of the tumor is first debulked to provide visualization of the margins and assess the extent of the tumor. Afterwa

Malignant melanoma is a neoplasm which frequency has been increasing rapidly in Poland. The paper describes five cases of patients with cutaneous melanoma coexisting with pregnancy, who have been recently treated in the Department of Soft Tissue/Bone Tumors of M. Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer--Institute of Oncology, Warsaw. All patients presented clinically advanced primary lesions with poor prognosis. In paper recommendations for treatment of women with suspicious cutaneous lesions before or during pregnancy and patients with melanoma planning a pregnancy are presented. The suspicion of me

Late effects are delayed side effects that can occur months or years after bone marrow transplantation. Late effects become a matter of concern as the number of surviving patients and the length of survival time increase. Late effects express themselves as structural or functional impairment of organs or tissues or as neoplastic growth secondary to the primary treatment. Non-neoplastic late effects affect growth and development in children; endocrine and reproductive function; and the function of the eyes, lungs, kidneys, and other organs. Secondary neoplasms are malignant lymphomas and leukem

Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide, with a high prevalence in South Asia. Tobacco and alcohol consumption remain the most dominant etiologic factors, however HPV has been recently implicated in oral cancer. Surgery is the most well established mode of initial definitive treatment for a majority of oral cancers. The factors that affect choice of treatment are related to the tumor and the patient. Primary site, location, size, proximity to bone, and depth of infiltration are factors which influence a particular surgical approach. Tumors that approach or involve the mandible re

Benign and low-grade malignant bone tumours are often treated with curettage and filling of the resultant defect using any of a number of materials, including autologous bone grafts, allografts, or synthetic materials. The objective of this study was to report our experience using a synthetic bone graft substitute in these patients. Ten consecutive cases (four males, six females; mean age, 36 years) of benign bone tumours were treated surgically at a tertiary musculoskeletal oncology centre, between 2019 and 2021. Following curettage, the contained defects were managed with injectable beta-tri

A 3-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair cat was presented with acute pain during feeding and with hypersalivation, without any history of trauma. Oral examination revealed a lateral deviation of the left mandible and a soft, painful swelling at the site of the missing left mandibular canine tooth (304). Intraoral radiographs and computed tomography (CT) demonstrated extensive bone lysis of the left mandible and a cystic lesion extending from the mandibular symphysis to the level of the mandibular fourth premolar tooth (308), within which the embedded canine tooth was located. Regional ly

Occasionally is not possible to find clinical or radiological distinctive findings so is usefull to perform additional exams, think about rare disease and perform an explorative surgical treatment which can be adapted to the intraoperatory findings. There are many crucial genes and signaling pathways in the proper development of an organism. Pathologies may arise from a deregulation of these pathways. The Indian Hedgehog-PTH-related protein (Ihh-PTHrP) pathway is vital in the proper development of endochondral bones, such as the long bones. The Ihh-PTHrP pathway regulates the rate at which chondrocytes within the growth plate proliferate and differentiate. Thus, this pathway allows for the longitudinal growth of bones. However, a disruption in this pathway may lead to enchondromas and osteochondromas, which are both childhood cartilaginou

Myeloid sarcoma (MS), or extramedullary acute myeloid leukaemia tumour (eAML), is a rare hematopoietic neoplasm. Recognised as a distinct entity within acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), MS presents significant diagnostic challenges due to its rarity, clinical heterogeneity, and variable immunophenotypic and genetic characteristics. The mechanisms by which leukaemic stem cells (LSCs) migrate to form solid tumours in extramedullary (EM) sites remain unclear. MS can occur de novo, precede AML, and manifest alongside AML relapse. It can also develop with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDSs) or myeloproli

BACKGROUND: Limited understanding exists regarding early sarcoma symptoms presented during general practitioner (GP) consultations. The study explores GP visit patterns and recorded diagnoses in the 12 months preceding sarcoma diagnosis.
METHODS: Sarcoma cases diagnosed from 2010 to 2020 were identified through the Netherlands Cancer Registry alongside general practice data. Sarcoma cases were age and gender matched to cancer-free controls (2:1 or 1:1 ratio).
RESULTS: A total of 787 individuals with soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) and 188 individuals with bone sarcoma (BS) were identified. There w

Ewing sarcoma (ES) and primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) belong to the group of neoplasms called small round cell tumors. PNETs have been divided into central and peripheral. ES and peripheral PNETs arise from bones, soft tissues, or peripheral nerves. We present a case of hepatic ES/PNET in a healthy man that began four months before consultation with abdominal symptoms and weight loss. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and laboratory tests revealed no notable findings. The abdominal tomography revealed an enlarged liver due to a solid lesion that involved all its segments with intravenou

Introduction: Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) administration is an effective option for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). However, to date, studies assessing long-term outcomes and evaluating skin parameters after cell-based therapy are lacking. We presented the clinical outcomes of 3 patients, treated for DFUs with the bone marrow MSCs 3 years earlier. Methods: Ultrasound examination was used to compare collagen density and epidermal thickness in areas of healed ulcers in comparison with non-affected skin used as a control. Ultrasound and dermatoscopy were used to exclude neoplas

The incidence of hematologic malignancies and their extranodal manifestations is continuously increasing. Previously unsuspected hepatic involvement in hematologic malignancies such as Hodgkin disease and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder, myeloid sarcoma (chloroma), multiple myeloma, Castleman disease, and lymphohistiocytosis may be seen by radiologists. Although the imaging features of more common hepatic diseases such as hepatocellular carcinoma, metastases, and infection may overlap with those of hepatic hematologic malignancies, combining the imaging featur

Primary splenic lymphoma is rare, but malignant lymphoma often produces a lesion in the spleen as part of systemic disease. The frequency of splenic malignant lymphoma in Japan is unknown. We classified 184 specimens of the spleen according to the World Health Organization Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues, 4th edition (2008). Of the 184 specimens, 115 were determined to be lymphoid neoplasm (62.5%). The most common subtype of lymphoid neoplasm was diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) (46 cases), followed by splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) (28 cases), foll

Neuromuscular disorders are a common cause of morbidity in patients with cancer. They can be a direct effect of the primary malignancy, a paraneoplastic effect, or a treatment complication. Malignant neoplasms may infiltrate or compress nerve roots, plexi, and peripheral nerves, causing various sensory and motor symptoms. Electrodiagnostic testing, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, and neuroimaging are helpful in confirming the diagnosis. Treatment for neuropathies of neoplastic origin involves irradiation and chemotherapy, which may improve pain, but usually does not improve neurologic function.

Solitary plasmacytoma is a localized form of plasma cell neoplasm and is important to differentiate from multiple myeloma (MM) using clinical assessment, imaging, and bone marrow evaluation. Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) develops from soft tissue and is a rare occurrence, although a large proportion of cases are in the head and neck. We describe a 59-year-old man who presented with a progressively enlarging left-sided neck mass. Imaging revealed a lesion in the left tongue base and supraclavicular and cervical lymphadenopathy. Biopsy of the left tongue base lesion revealed mature plasma ce
