PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to assess glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GRx) and protein oxidation (POx) levels in patients with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and transitional meningioma (TM) and to compare with normal brain tissues.

Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) is a 933 amino acid residue, heme-containing, integral membrane glycoprotein that catalyzes two steps in the maturation of the thyroid hormone precursor. The impact of co-lyophilizing horseradish peroxidase (HRP) with numerous amino acids and other chiral excipients on the enzyme's subsequent stereoselectivity [E(S/R)] in the sulfoxidation of thioanisole in 2-propanol was systematically investigated. Mutations in the thyroid peroxidase (TPO) gene lead to severe congenital hypothyroidism due to total iodide organification defect (TIOD). According to the recessive mode of inheritance, patients are homozygous or compound heterozygous for gene mutations. Prostaglandin H synthase (PHS) is a dual enzyme with cyclo-oxygenase and peroxidase activities. The concentration of selenium and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) were determined in blood of 34 workers of a tannery in Gniezno, Poland, who worked in an area containing chromium compounds.
