OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the classification and the treatment of the asymmetrical breast deformity.
METHODS: From April of 1997 to October of 2001, 90 patients with the asymmetrical breast deformity were undergoing in the study. The patients were classified and the results of the treatment were evaluated with the pre-operative and post-operative photographs.

Using simple inexpensive equipment, still macro photographs were obtained of the ciliary body and lens capsule of donor eyes during the procedure of intraocular lens implantation. It is shown that implant lens loops, while correctly bag-implanted, can catch in the ciliary sulcus.

A scanning microdensitometric technique has been developed for measuring the optical density of black and white photographs of the optic disc. From the frequency distribution curve of all the densities of the whole area of the optic disc, a separate peak was identified as corresponding to the area of pallor of the optic disc. Central corneal alkali burn injuries were induced in rabbits by applying five NaOH concentrations on uniformly soaked 7 mm filter paper discs. Clinical parameters were evaluated daily by microscopic examination and photography, and corneal myeloperoxidase levels were measured periodically. Satisfactory alkali burn models of corneal inflammation, vascularization and ulceration were developed by manipulating the alkali concentration.

Remote imaging improves access to care and decreases the necessity for on-site evaluation by an ophthalmologist. Currently, established criteria do not exist delineating when the use of retinal photography and telemedicine is appropriate, rather than a dilated indirect ophthalmoscopic examination. This article will discuss the risk management strategies that practitioners and healthcare organizations should employ to protect both themselves and patients before adopting this technology.

We examined four patients with the suspected diagnosis of optic disc drusen by scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO) and fundus photography. In all four cases the autofluorescence that distinguishes optic disc drusen was observed with the SLO, but not with the fundus camera. Three of the four examined patients, children or adolescents, were spared further diagnostic procedures to clarify the underlying cause of the swollen optic disc.

Diagnosing inflammatory and thrombotic venous diseases by analysing coagulation is difficult because the results obtained with this method are not certain. Not all persons concerned use scintigraphy, the ultrasonic methods, infrared photography and phlebography as routine diagnostic methods. The surest way of diagnosing inflammatory and thrombotic venous diseases is still to bear in mind the limitations and the criteria mentioned and to combine the clinical and paraclinical methods into a diagnostic mosaic.
