We report here an efficient decarboxylative cross-coupling of zinc polyfluorobenzoates with aryl imidazolylsulfonates under palladium catalysis, which proceeded effectively via C-O bond cleavage to afford the corresponding valuable polyfluorinated biaryls in moderate to good yields, exhibiting both reasonable substrate scope and broad functional group tolerance. The influence of a magnesium oxide admixture on the activation process and catalytic activity of the iron catalyst with a wustite structure was investigated during the ammonia synthesis reaction. The incorporation of magnesium oxide into wustite grains is considered to be a structure-forming and activating promoter. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) have been known to enhance plant growth and nutrient uptake. In this study, we investigated the effects of Funneliformis mosseae, Rhizophagus intraradices, and their co-inoculation on the growth and biochemical composition of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) plants. There is increasing interest in using insects as an alternative nutrient source and Mysore thorn borer (MTB) (Anoplophora chinensis) might have nutritional and functional relevance for humans. Butyltin(IV) carboxylate compounds were obtained by reactions of butyltrichlorotin(IV) with potassium pivalate, perfluoroheptanoate, methacrylate, 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate, and phthalate. A series of sulphonylthioureas related to torasemide, a high ceiling loop diuretic, were synthesized and found to inhibit the Na+ 2Cl- K+ co-transporter of the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henlé. Their diuretic properties were studied (30 mg kg-1) after oral administration to rats. Lipophilic derivatives, very active in-vitro, were found inactive orally and intraperitoneally in rats. The metabolites of 4003/2 observed in vivo have been produced by incubation in vitro of 4003/2 with liver post-mitochondrial supernatants from rat, rabbit and dog. The metabolites were characterized by UV, i.r., NMR, MS and HPLC. All the metabolites detected have been or are in use as drugs for the relief of pain and inflammation. Hence, the new drug 4003/2 is a pro-drug of salicylic acid, carsalam and salicylamide.

Amiodarone iodine induced thyrotoxicosis occurs frequently in patients residing in areas of mild iodine deficiency and in patients with preexisting goiter. Drug therapy of the hyperthyroidism is often unsuccessful. Twenty-three patients with amiodarone induced thyrotoxicosis were either not treated, treated with 40 mg methimazole daily or with methimazole and 1 gm potassium perchlorate daily for up to 40 days and then with methimazole alone. Thyrotoxicosis was more likely to spontaneously remit in patients without goiter. Therapy with methimazole alone was unsuccessful in inducing euthyroidism

The use of diagnostic amniocentesis has been proposed for the evaluation of patients with clinical suspicion of chorioamnionitis, such as those with premature rupture of membranes and premature labor.
