Psychological Impact of Congenital Chest Wall Deformities Among Adolescents and Young Adults.

Progression of pectus excavatum and carinatum coincides with adolescence, a critical period for identity and self-esteem development. While clinical decision-making and insurance coverage have historically emphasized anatomic severity and cardiopulmonary functioning, increasing evidence suggests that psychosocial burden and quality of life (QoL) impairment represent central components of disease impact. A narrative review was conducted using the PubMed database to synthesize the current literature on the psychological impact of these deformities in adolescents and young adults, including body

Facial affect recognition in symptomatically remitted patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (BD) have consistently been associated with deficits in facial affect recognition (FAR). These impai … er depression scores were associated with impairments in both the identification of happy faces and psychosocial functioning. Overall, our findings indicate that during periods of symptomatic remission the recognition of facial affect may be less impaired in patients with BD than in those suffering from schizophrenia. However, in the psychosocial context BD patients seem …

Study protocol - elucidating the neural correlates of functional remediation for older adults with bipolar disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Beyond mood abnormalities, bipolar disorder (BD) includes cognitive impairments that worsen psychosocial functioning and quality of life. These deficits are especially severe in older adults with BD (OABD), a condition expected to represent most individuals with BD in the upcoming years. Restoring the psychosocial functioning of this population will thus soon represent a public health priority. To help tackle the problem, the Bipolar and Depressive Disorders Unit at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona has recently adapted its Functional Remediation (FR) program to that population, c…

Self-Reported Cancer-Related Cognitive Impairment and Psychosocial Symptom Burden in Survivors of Head and Neck Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) is an increasingly recognized survivorship concern, yet its prevalence and associated clinical and psychosocial factors among survivors of head and neck cancer (HNC) remain poorly characterized. METHODS: This cross-sectional study recruited survivors of HNC, who were at least 1-year post-diagnosis, from an institutional tumor registry to complete a comprehensive survey. Self-reported cognitive function was assessed using the PROMIS Cognitive Function Short Form 8a, with a T-score < 40 indicating cognitive impairment. Symptom burden was as

Beyond Physical Toxicities: Identifying Psychosocial Domains Requiring Integrated Support in Breast Cancer Pharmacotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Cancer pharmacotherapy imposes substantial physical and psychosocial burdens that affect patients' quality of life (QoL). While oncologic outcomes are well studied, the psychological dimensions-particularly future perspective, emotional resilience, and body image-remain underintegrated into routine care. The growing recognition of psycho-oncology highlights the need for synergistic collaboration between oncology and clinical psychology. AIM: To evaluate changes in QoL before and after pharmacotherapy among women with breast cancer and identify domains most vulnerable to psychologi

The mediating role of shame in the relationship between childhood bullying victimization and adult psychosocial adjustment.

Background: Psychological distress following experiencing bullying victimization in childhood has been well documented. Objective: This study investigated (1) whether childhood experiences of bullying victimization and violence were associated with psychosocial adjustment (distress, impaired functioning, social support barriers) in young adult
