VTAMA® (Tapinarof) 1% cream is a newly approved topical agent for treating plaque psoriasis. The active ingredient, tapinarof, binds to and activates aryl hydrocarbon receptors that positively regulate immune response and skin homeostasis. Acute type A aortic dissection (AAAD) remains a lethal disease. With advances in operative methods and perioperative management, surgical outcomes continue to improve, but in-hospital mortality still ranges from 10 to 30% in most series. The surgical technique of choice for aortic root repair remains controversial. Surgical glue created a breakthrough in surgery for acute aortic dissection. We review the surgical techniques with the use of surgical glue for AAAD.

It is shown that alcohol-water mixtures (e.g., 43 wt% ethanol) provide a suitable medium for the efficient production in high yield of beta-hematin from ferriprotoporphyrin IX (FP), as measured by infrared spectroscopy. Previous and present light-absorption data of FP, obtained under specific acid conditions in an ethanol-water medium, suggest the presence of FP monomers, which are considered to promote the reaction leading to beta-hematin. Other aspects of the mechanism of reaction are discussed.

In this study, porous magnetic resin grafted chitosan (R-g-Ch) beads were prepared for removal of 4-chlorophenol and phenol from aqueous solutions. The R-g-Ch beads were characterized by vibrating sample magnetometer, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and thermogravimetry methods. Two men, 58 and 72 years old, were diagnosed as severe aortic regurgitation complicated by aortic annular abscess due to active endocarditis infection diagnosed by echocardiography. We conducted aortic valve replacement using gelatine-resorcine-formol biological glue to close the abscess cavity and remodel the new aortic annulus. Although 1 man developed complete atrial-ventral blockage postoperatively and required that a permanent pacemaker be implanted, neither experienced recurrence of infectious peri-valvular leakage.

Hydroxyapatite-based radicular paste was tried in 12 dogs with experimental chronic periodontitis. Hydroxyapatite, zinc-eugenol, and resorcin-formal pastes were compared. The periodontal status was assessed by morphometric methods. Hydroxyapatite-based radicular paste was found to be the most effective means of treating experimental chronic periodontitis. In control groups the therapeutic effect was either null or minimal.

Series of N-alkylated derivatives of trans-octahydrobenzo[g]quinoline and of cis- and trans-octahydrobenzo[f]quinoline were prepared for pharmacological testing as congeners of 2-amino-5,7-dihydroxytetralin, which elicits dopaminergic effects in a variety of assays. Trans-fused compounds bearing N-ethyl or N-n-propyl displayed high potency/activity in inhibition of effect of stimulation of the cat cardioaccelerator nerve.
