Myeloid sarcoma involving salivary glands is extremely rare. Here, we report four cases of this rare occurrence, diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration biopsy. All of four patients had previous diagnoses of myeloid neoplasms. They presented with a solitary mass in the parotid or submandibular salivary gland. The cytological evaluation of the aspirates revealed scattered salivary gland acini admixed with dispersed atypical cells. In three cases, the atypical cells appeared to be heterogeneous, intermediate to large in size, and have folded nuclei with fine chromatin. In another case the atypical c

Background: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a malignant extramedullary tumor that occurs in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), or chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). The standard first-line treatment for MS is intensive chemotherapy according to the AML protocol, regardless of bone marrow involvement. The role of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT) in the treatment of pediatric patients with MS requires further investigation. The aim of the study was to evaluate treatment outcomes for MS in pediatric patients with a focus on assessing the

INTRODUCTION: Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia, typically presents with severe bleeding. However, the occurrence of APL with isolated myeloid sarcoma (MS) as the sole initial presentation is extremely rare, lacking typical clinical and laboratory features, which complicates diagnosis and management.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 45-year-old male was admitted for 2-month lower back pain. Spinal MRI showed T10 vertebral signal changes; histopathology confirmed the vertebral mass was myeloid origin, with PML::RARα fusion detected via PCR. Initial blood counts, coagu

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) involving the skull base is an exceptionally rare clinical entity, with limited cases described in the literature. Due to its radiological similarity to meningiomas and other extraaxial lesions, MS often leads to misdiagnosis and delayed treatment. Insights from reported cases suggest that early histopathological confirmation and systemic therapy are critical for improving prognosis.
OBJECTIVE: To present a rare case of skull base MS mimicking en plaque meningioma and to contextualize its clinical, radiological, and pathological features with respect to existi

Myeloid sarcoma is a tumor that demonstrates extramedullary proliferation of myeloid blasts with or without maturation. It may present as an isolated tumor or may have peripheral or marrow involvement. The diagnosis of myeloid sarcoma is highly challenging as it may mimic other tumors. A 71-year-old woman with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance score of 2 presented with a progressively enlarging right facial mass that had been growing for 18 months. Initially, it appeared as a 1x1 cm erythematous pustular lesion. A core biopsy suggested carcinoma, but COVID-19 delayed imm

INTRODUCTION: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary malignant tumor composed of immature myeloid cells. It occurs in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), or chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). MS may coincide with disease diagnosis or precede bone marrow involvement by months or even years; it can also represent the extramedullary manifestation of a relapse (1, 2).
AIM: The aim of this study is to describe clinical characteristics of children diagnosed with MS in Poland as well as to analyze diagnostic methods, treatment, and outcomes including overall s

INTRODUCTION: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary tumor that consists of myeloblasts and rarely involves the female reproductive organs. Intestinal Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic, inflammatory illness that is often associated with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). When MDS is diagnosed, some patients with intestinal BD experience synchronous gastrointestinal flares.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 49-year-old woman who presented with vaginal bleeding and an incidentally identified MS in the uterine cervix. Subsequent bone marrow biopsy showed simultaneous MDS without chromo

RATIONALE: Myeloid sarcomas (MSs) are rare malignant hematological tumors. They most commonly occur in patients with acute or chronic myeloid leukemia. A de novo MS with no evidence of blood system disease is rare, but may represent the first sign of a systemic illness that precedes a full-blown disease. Herein, we report the computed tomography (CT) findings of an extremely rare case of a nonleukemic MS that progressed to acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and simultaneously involved the small intestine, kidneys, mesentery, and mesenteric lymph nodes. Moreover, we provide CT findings before and

A 14-year-old boy presented with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in blast phase with segregated extramedullary (nodal) myeloid sarcoma and T-lymphoblastic lymphoma. Immunohistochemical stains performed on the lymphadenectomy sample demonstrated T lymphoblasts in the lymph nodes and myeloblasts in the adjacent soft tissue. Fluorescence in situ hybridization performed on paraffin sections confirmed that both T-lymphoblast and myeloblast populations were positive for the t(9;22) BCR/ABL1 translocation. Subsequent flow cytometry analysis of the bone marrow showed expanded populations of abnorma

A thirty-seven-year-old male patient presented with dysphagia and hoarseness six months after complete remission of acute myeloid leukemia (AML-M0), which had been treated with chemotherapy. Physical examination revealed left vocal cord paralysis and involvement of the 9th, 10th, and 12th cranial nerves. Sagittal and axial magnetic resonance scans of the nasopharynx and neck showed a mass in the left retropharyngeal and perivertebral regions, 6x4 cm in size; another mass in the left vallecula, and infiltration of the right preepiglottic tissue by another mass of 2 cm. There was no bone marrow

Few patients in remission of Ph-positive chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) develop Ph-negative MDS/AML, usually with clonal cytogenetic abnormalities. Isolated Ph-negative myeloid sarcoma (MS) is presented here as a form of such disorder, different from Ph-positive MS establishing CML relapse in blastic phase. We describe 11-year-old male who developed Ph-negative isolated MS with NPM1 mutation, remaining in complete molecular remission of Ph-positive chronic myeloid leukemia treated with allo-HSCT in first chronic phase and with imatinib and donor lymphocyte infusion in molecular relapse. BACKGROUND: Acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL) is a rare subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that predominantly affects young children. The RBM15::MRTFA fusion gene is a recurrent genetic alteration in pediatric non-Down syndrome associated AMKL (n-DS-AMKL). Myeloid sarcoma (MS), an extramedullary solid tumor of immature myeloid cells, can be a presenting feature of AML and poses significant diagnostic challenges, often leading to initial misdiagnosis. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 2-year-old boy who initially presented with a right frontal cranial mass. Imaging and initia

Myeloid sarcoma is a solid hematological tumor consisting of growing immature myeloid cells in tissues outside the bone marrow. Myeloid sarcoma presenting before the onset of bone marrow disease is rare. Here, we report the case of a young 35-year-old male who presented with testicular mass and was diagnosed with widespread myeloid sarcoma involving internal organs like heart, kidney and gallbladder. Peripheral blood and bone marrow examination did not show any evidence of leukemia. Genetic analysis was significant for KRAS G12D mutation and KMT2A rearrangement. Induction chemotherapy for extr

Myeloid sarcoma is a tumor formed by extramedullary accumulation of myeloblasts or immature myeloid cells. These tumors can develop in lymphoid organs, bone, skin, soft tissue, and other organs, and may precede or occur concurrently with acute myeloid leukemia. This is a case of a 42-year-old man who presented with a 2-week history of cough and shortness of breath on exertion. A computed tomography (CT) scan showed a large mediastinal mass and pericardial effusion. An F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-CT scan showed intense fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in the mediastinal

Granulocytic sarcoma (chloroma) is a rare solid tumor resulting from the proliferation of myelogenous leukemia cells. Chloromas usually present as soft tissue or bony masses of the head and neck in patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) of the French-American-British M2 subtype. Occasionally chloromas may occur in patients with myelodysplasia and other myeloproliferative disorders and rarely precede the development of systemic disease. It is distinctly rare for such tumors to cause epidural compression as a first manifestation of disease. Herein, we report the case of a man with a thor

BACKGROUND: Epstein Barr virus-associated smooth muscle tumors (EBV-SMT) are rare neoplasms that can occur in immunocompromised individuals. The native or transplanted liver is the most commonly involved site in post transplant patients. Systemic therapies have been utilized in EBV-SMT with modest activity.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We describe a 23-year-old female kidney transplant recipient who presented with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and hepatic myeloid sarcoma (MS). Although it was not recognized initially, her liver biopsy revealing MS at diagnosis was posthumously found to have synchronous E

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a tumorous extramedullary proliferation of blast or blast equivalent cells (e.g., promonocytes or promyelocytes). The most frequent cutaneous presentation is often referred to as leukemia cutis (LC). These lesions, especially without the clinical context of a known bone marrow disease, pose a differential diagnostic challenge. In this retrospective multicenter clinico-pathological study on 154 patients with MS or LC, 169 samples were analyzed by morphology, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescent in situ hybridization, and a subset by additional sequencing [TP53].
