The present study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity and cytotoxicity of colloidal chitosan - silver nanoparticle - fluoride nanocomposites (CChAgNpFNc), with different silver nanoparticle shapes and sizes. The syntheses of CChAgNpFNc were performed with silver nitrate added to a chitosan solution, addition of a sodium borohydride solution and solid sodium fluoride. We have synthesized capsaicin-coated silver nanoparticles (AgNPs(Cap)) and have tested their anti-amyloid activity, considering serum albumin (BSA) as a model protein. We found that amyloid formation of BSA was strongly suppressed in the presence of AgNPs(Cap). However, isolated capsaicin and uncapped control nanoparticles did not show such an inhibition effect. BACKGROUND: Cost-effectiveness analyses show that chlorhexidine-silver sulfadiazine (CHSS)-impregnated catheters reduce catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI) and central venous catheter (CVC)-related costs. ACE inhibitors or AT(1) antagonists are powerful therapeutic strategies to slow the progression of renal disease. However, they provide only imperfect protection since they cannot always prevent end-stage renal failure. Innovative approaches are needed to keep patients with chronic kidney disease off dialysis. Blockade of the aldosterone pathway may prove to be such a beneficial therapeutic concept.

In a prospective randomized study, intracavitary silver nitrate (AgNO3) stick insertion (n = 25) was compared to the conventional excision technique (n = 25) for Bartholin's cyst or abscess.
