Social goals in girls transitioning to adolescence: associations with psychopathology and brain network connectivity.

The motivation to socially connect with peers increases during adolescence in parallel with changes in neurodevelopment. These changes in social motivation create opportunities for experiences that can impact risk for psychopathology, but the specific motivational presentations that confer greater psychopathology risk are not fully understood. To address this issue, we used a latent profile analysis to identify the multidimensional presentations of self-reported social goals in a sample of 220 girls (9-15 years old, M = 11.81, SD = 1.81) that was enriched for internalizing symptoms, and tested

[Digital social networks and social participation in the Brazilian public health system (SUS): reflections about sociopolitical transformations and contemporary challenges in health].

This paper examines the emergence of a new exercise and participatory practice in health linked to the development of information and communication technologies (ICTs), especially digital social networks, based on the experiences of municipal health managers in the Greater ABC region of São Paulo. Empirical research was conducted through semi-structured interviews with managers from the cities of Diadema, Mauá, Ribeirão Pires, Santo André, and São Caetano do Sul, between September 2019 and February 2020. The analysis of the material allowed the identification of the development of a new partic

Word frequency and content analysis approach to identify demand patterns in a virtual community of carriers of hepatitis C.

BACKGROUND: Orkut, a Brazilian virtual social network, is responsible for popularization of the Internet among people of low income and educational level. It's observed that rapid growth of virtual communities can be reached by low cost Internet access in community local area network houses. Orkut poses an important social resource for Brazilian patients with chronic conditions like hepatitis C virus (HCV) carriers, who face several obstacles in adapting to everyday difficulties. OBJECTIVE: Identify Patterns of Recurring Demands (PRD) expressed in messages posted by members of virtual communi

A network-informed approach to investigating a tuberculosis outbreak: implications for enhancing contact investigations.

BACKGROUND: To elucidate networks of Mycobacterium tuberculosis transmission, it may be appropriate to characterize the types of relationships among tuberculosis (TB) cases and their contacts (with and without latent TB infection) in addition to relying on traditional efforts to distinguish 'close' from 'casual' contacts. SETTING: A TB outbreak in a US low incidence state. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether social network analysis can provide insights into transmission settings that might otherwise go unrecognized by routine practices. DESIGN: All adult outbreak-associated cases (n = 19) and a …

Meaning in life as a central pathway in depression: A network and causal discovery study of psychological resources among university students.

BACKGROUND: Depressive symptoms are prevalent and influenced by various protective factors among university students. While meaning in life (MIL), particularly the presence of MIL, has emerged as a core psychological construct associated with depression, its precise position within the network of interconnected psychological resources remains unclear. This study aimed to understand how psychological resources of mental health interact and to explore statistically compatible directional pathways associated with depressive symptoms. METHOD: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 2216 Chine

IMOVE: Protocol for a randomized, controlled 2x2 factorial trial of improvisational movement and social engagement interventions in older adults with early Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND: In addition to cognitive impairment, people with Alzheimer's disease (PWAD) experience neuropsychiatric symptoms (e.g., apathy, depression), altered gait, and poor balance that further diminish their quality of life (QoL). Here, we describe a unique, randomized, controlled trial to test the hypothesis that both movement and social engagement aspects of a group dance intervention alter the connectivity of key brain networks involved in motor and social-emotional functioning and lead to improved QoL in PWAD. METHODS: IMOVE (NCT03333837) was a single-center, randomized, controlled 2x

Behavioural and neural correlates of social hierarchy formation in a sex-changing fish.

Social hierarchies in sex-changing fish determine which fish will change sex, yet the complexities of hierarchy formation at the neurobehavioural level are still being unravelled. Here, we investigate the formation of social hierarchies within groups of New Zealand spotty wrasse, integrating behavioural observations with neural activation patterns upon social disruption. We find that dominance hierarchies form linearly based on size, with larger fish displaying more dominant behaviours and smaller fish displaying more submissive behaviours. Disruption of the social hierarchy induced rapid beha

Characterizing Socioecological Markers of Differentiated HIV Risk Among Men Who Have Sex with Men in Indonesia.

HIV prevention programs typically focus on changing individuals' risk behaviors, often without considering the socioecological factors that can moderate this risk. We characterized HIV risk among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Indonesia (n = 1314) using latent class analysis and used multinomial logistic regression to identify latent class relationships with demographics, social/sexual networks, and community-level socioecological indicators of HIV risk. Three HIV risk latent classes were identified-"Sexually Moderate" (n = 333), "Sexual Explorative" (n = 575), and "Navigating Complexities

Role of gender in the relationship between maladaptive perfectionism and problematic social media use via coping motives: A moderated mediation study.

Problematic Social Media Use (PSMU) is a mental health issue associated with maladaptive perfectionism. This study examined whether coping motives mediate the relationship between maladaptive perfectionism and PSMU, and whether this mediation is moderated by gender. A total of 212 college students (67.9% women; mean age = 24.78 ± 3.41 years) completed the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, the Social Network Site Use Motives Scale-Revised, and the Social Media Addiction Proneness Scale. Results from the moderated mediation analysis indicated that maladaptive perfectionism significantl

Dynamic contact networks of residents of an urban jail in the era of SARS-CoV-2.

BACKGROUND: In custodial settings such as jails and prisons, infectious disease transmission is heightened by factors such as overcrowding and limited healthcare access. Specific features of social contact networks within these settings have not been sufficiently characterized, especially in the context of a large-scale respiratory infectious disease outbreak. The study aims to quantify contact network dynamics within the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia. METHODS: Jail roster data were utilized to construct social contact networks. Rosters included resident details, cell locations, and

Unveiling the Burden of Drug-Induced Impulsivity: A Network Analysis of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System.

INTRODUCTION: Impulsivity induced by dopaminergic agents, like pramipexole and aripiprazole, can lead to behavioral addictions that impact on social functioning and quality of life of patients and families (e.g., resulting in unemployment, marital problems, anxiety). These secondary effects, interconnected in networks of signs and symptoms, are usually overlooked by clinical trials, not reported in package inserts, and neglected in clinical practice. OBJECTIVE: This study explores the syndromic burden of impulsivity induced by pramipexole and aripiprazole, pinpointing key symptoms for targete

Perceived Social Support Mediating Caregiver Burden and Mental Health in Schizophrenia Caregivers.

Schizophrenia is a severe, chronic mental disorder that imposes a substantial burden on family members, and this burden is strongly correlated with caregivers' increased levels of anxiety and depression. Conversely, perceived social support functions as a critical coping resource, thereby effectively moderating stress and facilitating better psychological adjustment. This quantitative study tested the mediating hypothesis that perceived social support accounts for the relationship between caregiver burden and these negative psychological outcomes. This study adopted a cross-sectional design an
