Phytochemical, In Silico, In Vitro, and In Vivo Research on Piptadeniastrum africanum (Fabaceae) Unveiling Anti-Stereotypic, Anxiolytic, and Analgesic Effects in a Sodium Valproate-Induced Autistic Disorders Model.

OBJECTIVE: Individuals with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) primarily exhibit deficits in communication and social interaction, along with repetitive behaviors and restricted interests. This disorder is often associated with anxiety, nociceptive disorders, and pain. While medical treatment generally focuses on treating the symptoms rather than addressing the underlying causes, traditional medicine is sometimes used as an alternative. Piptadeniastrum africanum is used in Cameroonian medicinal folks to treat cognitive disorders. However, its effects and mechanisms of action regarding the inhib

CLL-like stereotyped BCRs are equally produced in young and old healthy adults, share features of public clonotypes and may be stuck at a pre-germinal centre stage.

Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) is a B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder with ~40% of cases harbouring stereotyped B-cell receptors (BCRs), defined by common features in their immunoglobulin sequences. Major CLL stereotypes are associated with specific genetic abnormalities that may influence prognosis. To explore their physiological counterparts, we analyzed total circulating BCR repertoires from 69 healthy volunteers (HVs) aged 18-78 years. In healthy repertoires, mean abundances of 'typical' CLL-like stereotyped immunoglobulins (CLS-IG) and 'non-typical' CLS-IG (expected CDR3 sequences

"I Don't Like Being Stereotyped, I Decided I Was Never Going Back to the Doctor": Sexual Healthcare Access Among Young Latina Women in Alabama.

Young Latina women (YLW) in the US and in Alabama are disproportionately affected by sexual health disparities. Our community based participatory research (CBPR) study's purpose was to examine YLW's perceptions and experiences of sexual healthcare access (SHCA) toward developing community-driven, multilevel intervention strategies. We conducted 20 semi-structured qualitative interviews with YLW between 15 and 19 years old and who had been in the US for 5 or more years. We content-analyzed the data guided by the Socioecological Model of Sexual Health (SEMSH). We began analyses by coding indepen

Australian long-finned pilot whales (Globicephala melas) emit stereotypical, variable, biphonic, multi-component, and sequenced vocalisations, similar to those recorded in the northern hemisphere.

While in the northern hemisphere, many studies have been conducted on the vocal repertoire of long-finned pilot whales (Globicephala melas), no such study has been conducted in the southern hemisphere. Presented here, is the first study on the vocalisations of long-finned pilot whales along the southern coast of mainland Australia. Multiple measures were taken of 2028 vocalisations recorded over five years in several locations. These vocalisations included tonal sounds with and without overtones, sounds of burst-pulse character, graded sounds, biphonations, and calls of multiple components. Vo

Neonatal treatment with L-name (NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester) attenuates stereotyped behavior induced by acute methamphetamine but not development of behavioral sensitization to methamphetamine.

1. The neurodevelopmental hypothesis of schizophrenia postulates that disturbed nitric oxide (NO) function during neuronal development is one of premorbid factors for schizophrenia in later life. 2. The aim of present study is to investigate behaviorally whether neonatal inhibition of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) affects dopaminergic function, the abnormality of which may be ascribed to a major pathophysiology of schizophrenia. 3. Male rat pups were injected daily with NOS inhibitor, NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), from postnatal day (PD) 1 to 14. 4. When methamphetamine (MAP) was ch

The Days and Nights of Zoo Elephants: Using Epidemiology to Better Understand Stereotypic Behavior of African Elephants (Loxodonta africana) and Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus) in North American Zoos.

Stereotypic behavior is an important indicator of compromised welfare. Zoo elephants are documented to perform stereotypic behavior, but the factors that contribute to performance have not been systematically assessed. We collected behavioral data on 89 elephants (47 African [Loxodonta africana], 42 Asian [Elephas maximus]) at 39 North American zoos during the summer and winter. Elephants were videoed for a median of 12 daytime hours per season. A subset of 32 elephants (19 African, 13 Asian) was also observed live for a median of 10.5 nighttime hours. Percentages of visible behavior scans wer

N-acetylcysteine ameliorates repetitive/stereotypic behavior due to its antioxidant properties without activation of the canonical Wnt pathway in a valproic acid-induced rat model of autism.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is widely used as an antioxidant, and previous studies have suggested that it may have potential as an alternative therapeutic strategy for the treatment of patients with autism. However, the exact effects of NAC administration on the development of autism, as well as the molecular mechanisms underlying its actions, have yet to be fully elucidated. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of NAC on the oxidative status of rats in a valproic acid (VPA)‑induced model of autism, and to examine the involvement of the canonical Wnt signaling pathway in the actions o

How do we infer others' goals from non-stereotypic actions? The outcome of context-sensitive inferential processing in right inferior parietal and posterior temporal cortex.

Humans permanently monitor others' behaviour and reason about their goals and intentions. Recent studies provided evidence suggesting that a very simple mechanism might underlie these functions. When observing stereotypic actions of others, goal inference seems to work through internal simulation of these actions in the self. However, less is known about the functional mechanisms and brain areas that are involved in inferring goals from others' actions when these actions are not stereotypic. Here we investigated the neural processes that are involved in goal inference processing of simple, non

Effects of stuttering severity and therapy involvement on role entrapment of people who stutter.

The primary purpose of this study was to examine whether a group of university students would report role entrapment of people who stutter (PWS) in the form of occupational stereotyping. The study also examined whether severity of stuttering (mild or severe) and level of therapy involvement (choosing or not choosing to attend therapy) affected the perceptions of role entrapment. To examine these issues, 260 students completed the Vocational Advice Scale (VAS) [Gabel, R. M., Blood, G. W., Tellis, G., & Althouse, M. T. (2004). Measuring role entrapment of people who stutter. The complex relationships among self-acceptance, perceived social support, drug use stereotype threat, and subthreshold depression in people with substance use disorder: exploring the mediating and buffering effects.

INTRODUCTION: Depression levels are significantly higher among people with substance use disorder (SUD) than in the general population; however, studies on the level of subthreshold depression in this population are scarce. Research shows a significant correlation between self-acceptance and depression, with social support playing a key role in the process of recovery and social reintegration for people with SUD. This study aimed to explore the effects of self-acceptance, perceived social support, and stereotype threat of people with SUD on their subthreshold depression, as well as potential m

The Partial M1 Muscarinic Cholinergic Receptor Agonist, CDD-0102A, Differentially Modulates Glutamate Efflux in Striatal Subregions during Stereotyped Motor Behavior in the BTBR Mouse Model of Autism.

The BTBR T+ Itpr3tf/J (BTBR) mouse displays elevated repetitive motor behaviors. Treatment with the partial M1 muscarinic receptor agonist, CDD-0102A, attenuates stereotyped motor behaviors in BTBR mice. The present experiment investigated whether CDD-0102A modifies changes in striatal glutamate concentrations during stereotyped motor behavior in BTBR and B6 mice. Using glutamate biosensors, change in striatal glutamate efflux was measured during bouts of digging and grooming behavior with a 1 s time resolution. Mice displayed both decreases and increases in glutamate efflux during such behavi

Effects of a Physical Exercise Program (PEP-Aut) on Autistic Children's Stereotyped Behavior, Metabolic and Physical Activity Profiles, Physical Fitness, and Health-Related Quality of Life: A Study Protocol.

Physical exercise has shown positive effects on symptomatology and on the reduction of comorbidities in population with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, there is still no consensus about the most appropriate exercise intervention model for children with ASD. The physical exercise program for children with autism (PEP-Aut) protocol designed allow us to (i) examine the multivariate associations between ASD symptoms, metabolic profile, physical activity level, physical fitness, and health-related quality of life of children with ASD; (ii) assess the effects of a 40-week exercise program o

The former transsexual: a case study.

The case is presented of a biological male, diagnosed as transsexual, who lived as a female for a considerable period and then returned to the male role. The subject came within days of having genital surgery, deciding to return to the male role after surgery was canceled due to policy changes at a hospital. A number of factors are offered as possible correlatives to the decision to return to the original gender role. These include increase in assertiveness, decrease in gender-role stereotyping, religious conversion, improvement of vocational state, and falling in love. It is suggested that th…

Longitudinal dynamics between other-gender peer contact quality and gender-stereotypical trait norms in coeducational physical education: a four-wave random-intercept cross-lagged panel study.

Coeducational physical education (PE) may reproduce or challenge gender norms depending on the quality of students' interactions with other-gender peers. This four-wave longitudinal study examined between-person and within-person prospective associations between other-gender peer contact quality in PE (CQ) and endorsement of gender-stereotypical trait norms (GST). Participants were 1,376 students from 20 primary and secondary schools in Chengdu, China, assessed from March 2025 to January 2026. After longitudinal measurement invariance was established, a random-intercept cross-lagged panel mode

Perceptions of obesity across the lifespan.

OBJECTIVE: Previous research on obesity stereotyping has almost extensively involved looking at the perceptions that 5-21-year-old individuals have toward members of their own age in-group. Very little research has examined how people perceive obesity across the lifespan. The current research begins to address this gap by examining the extent to which individuals between 18 and 77 years of age stereotype obesity in 20, 40, and 60-year-old targets. METHODS AND PROCEDURES: A total of 106 male and 102 female white participants viewed nine standardized Adobe- cropped photos that depicted 20, 40, …
