We cultured anterior chamber aspirates of 28 patients who had uncomplicated cataract surgery. Fourteen patients had received 80 micrograms/ml of gentamicin in balanced salt solution through irrigation of the anterior chamber throughout cataract extraction, and 14 patients had received 8 micrograms/ml of gentamicin. Cultures of anterior chamber fluid obtained at the end of surgery from all 28 patients had no growth on two nonselective media. There was no clinical evidence of ocular toxicity. Eighteen patients with bronchial asthma were studied in a single-blind fashion. Achondrogenesis type I is a perinatally lethal, short-limb chondrodysplasia. A case of quinidine sulfate-induced photodermatitis is reported. The photosensitive reaction to quinidine sulfate was reproducible in the photopatch test and after oral intake plus ultraviolet A (UVA) irradiation. Eczematous dermatitis was provoked after intradermal injection of in vitro UVA-irradiated quinidine sulfate only in the presence of patient's serum. The history of inpatients with Crohn's disease revealed several occurrences of contact dermatitis due to metal ions. Therefore, we considered the question as to whether allergic reactions to amalgam fillings or mercury, delivered in small amounts, could be a factor in the activity of regional enteritis. 23 patients with Crohn's disease (15 females, 8 males), aged from 20 to 44 years were screened by an extended standard patch test (following the rules of the ICDRG).
