Reclaiming Reactive Oxygen Species With Taurine/Peroxytaurine Redox Couple for Achieving Ultra-Long-Term Cycle Stability in 4.8 V Li-Rich Layered Oxide Cathodes.

Li-rich Mn-based layered oxides (LRMOs) are essential cathode materials for higher energy densities in batteries. Nevertheless, the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) at high voltages, accompanied by the migration of surface oxygen vacancies and transition metal ions, results in continuous electrolyte decomposition, irreversible phase transition, and nanovoids formation within bulk materials. These processes significantly shorten cycle life of batteries and limit practical applications. Herein, inspired by biological properties of taurine (TA) in scavenging ROS, we propose a straightforw…

Combined Aerobic-Resistance Training and Taurine Supplementation Reduce Asprosin and Elevate Spexin in Men with Obesity: A 12-Week Supplement-Blinded, Randomized Controlled Trial.

AIM: Asprosin, a white adipose tissue-derived glucogenic adipokine, and spexin, a satiety-promoting neuropeptide, are dysregulated in obesity, yet their collective modulation by structured exercise and nutritional supplementation remains poorly characterized. This trial investigated the effects of 12 weeks of combined aerobic-resistance training, with and without taurine supplementation, on plasma asprosin, spexin, and body composition in obese men. METHODS: Forty-four obese men (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) were allocated in a randomized, placebo-controlled, supplement-blinded design to control plus plac…

Subchronic Residual Oil Fly Ash (ROFA) exposure induces oxidative stress in brain, lung, and cardiac tissues and promotes neuroinflammation, with partial attenuation by taurine.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to particulate matter (PM₂.₅), including Residual Oil Fly Ash (ROFA), triggers oxidative stress and inflammation. Taurine, an antioxidant amino acid, may protect against these effects, but its efficacy against subchronic ROFA exposure is unclear. This study evaluated taurine's protective role in ROFA-induced multi-organ damage and neurobehavioral changes. METHODS: Male Wistar rats received ROFA (250 µg/day, intranasally) for six weeks, with or without taurine (400 mg/kg/day). Oxidative markers (CAT, SOD, TBARS) were measured in the brain, lungs, heart, and liver. Cytokine…

Central GABAA receptor mediates taurine-induced hypothermia and possibly reduces food intake in thermo-neutral chicks and regulates plasma metabolites in heat-exposed chicks.

The aim of this study was to examine the central action of taurine on body temperature and food intake in neonatal chicks under control thermoneutral temperature (CT) and high ambient temperature (HT). Intracerebroventricular injection of taurine caused dose-dependent hypothermia and reduced food intake under CT. The mRNA expression of the GABAA receptors, GABAAR-α1 and GABAAR-γ, but not that of GABABR, significantly decreased in the diencephalon after central injection of taurine. Subsequently, we found that picrotoxin, a GABAAR antagonist, attenuated taurine-induced hypothermia. Central taur…

A commercial grain-free diet does not decrease plasma amino acids and taurine status but increases bile acid excretion when fed to Labrador Retrievers.

Grain-free diets tend to have greater inclusions of pulses in contrast to grain-based diets. In 2018, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a statement that grain-free diets may be related to the development of canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). However, all dog foods met regulatory minimums for nutrient inclusion recommended by the Association of American Feed Controls Official. In some FDA case reports, but not all, dogs diagnosed with DCM also had low concentrations of plasma or whole blood taurine; thus, we hypothesized that feeding these diets will result in reduced taurine st…

Proteomics analysis of fetal growth restriction and taurine‑treated fetal growth restriction rat brain tissue by 2D DIGE and MALDI‑TOF/TOF MS analysis.

Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is caused by placental insufficiency and can lead to short and long‑term neurodevelopmental delays. Taurine, one of the most abundant amino acids in the brain, is critical for the normal growth and development of the nervous system; however, the mechanistic role of taurine in neural growth and development remains unknown. The present study investigated the role of taurine in FGR. Specifically, we explored the proteomic profiles of fetal rats at 6 h postpartum by two‑dimensional difference gel electrophoresis combined with matrix assisted laser desorption ionizati…

Taurine alleviated paraquat-induced oxidative stress and gut-liver axis damage in weaned piglets by regulating the Nrf2/Keap1 and TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathways.

BACKGROUND: Oxidative stress can impair intestinal barrier function and cause liver damage, resulting in reduced animal productivity. Paraquat (PQ) induces significant oxidative stress in weaned piglets. The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic regulatory functions of taurine (Tau), a free amino acid that is widely distributed in the body, have been extensively studied. However, the mechanisms by which dietary Tau alleviates oxidative stress and gut-liver axis damage in weaned piglets remain unclear. METHODS: Forty weaned piglets (20 males and 20 females; 6.41 ± 0.11 kg; 25 days old;…

Co-delivery of doxorubicin and silybin via taurine-conjugated chitosan-modified TAUT-targeted liposomes enhances oral bioavailability and alleviates doxorubicin-induced cardiomyocyte toxicity in vitro.

Oral administration remains the most convenient and patient-preferred route for therapeutic drug delivery. However, the clinical translation of oral doxorubicin (DOX) is severely hampered by its low oral bioavailability, which remains a major challenge for oral chemotherapy. Herein, we report the development of taurine-conjugated chitosan (TAU-CS)-modified liposomes co-encapsulating silybin (SLB) and DOX (designated TAU-CS/LIP@DOX + SLB), a system engineered to enhance the oral bioavailability of DOX while reducing DOX-induced cardiomyocyte toxicity in vitro. The optimized liposomes displayed …

Bile acid malabsorption investigated by selenium-75-homocholic acid taurine ((75)SeHCAT) scans: causes and treatment responses to cholestyramine in 298 patients with chronic watery diarrhoea.

BACKGROUND: The liver produces and secretes bile acids into the small intestine. In the small intestine, most of the bile acids are absorbed in the distal ileum with portal vein transportation back to the liver and resecretion (enterohepatic recycling). Increased spillover of bile acids from the small intestine into the colon (bile acid malabsorption) may affect the secretion of colonic water and electrolytes and result in watery diarrhoea. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of bile acid malabsorption and treatment responses to cholestyramine with (75)SeHCAT scanning among

Long noncoding RNAs Colorectal Neoplasia Differentially Expressed and taurine-upregulated gene 1 are downregulated in sepsis and positively regulate each other to suppress the apoptosis of cardiomyocytes.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) Colorectal Neoplasia Differentially Expressed (CRNDE) and taurine-upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) play similar roles in sepsis, indicating the existence of the crosstalk between them. Sepsis is a major cause of injuries in heart, which are related to high mortality rates. This study was therefore carried out to analyze the potential crosstalk between CRNDE and TUG1 in sepsis, with a focus on sepsis-induced cell apoptosis in heart. Expression of CRNDE and TUG1 was analyzed with RT-qPCR. Correlations between them were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient. CRNDE a…

Susceptibility of Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis to killing by MPO-halide system products. Implication for taurine bromamine as a new candidate for topical therapy in treating acne vulgaris.

INTRODUCTION: Taurine chloramine (TauCl) and taurine bromamine (TauBr) are the main haloamines produced by activated neutrophils. TauCl exerts both anti-inflammatory and microbicidal activities. Clinical studies showed that TauCl may be useful as an antimicrobial agent in the local treatment of infections. Much less is known about TauBr. Circumstantial evidence suggests that Propionibacterium acnes (PA) has a role in the inflammation of acne. Available topical therapies include antimicrobial agents which reduce total PA numbers and anti-inflammatory agents which suppress activity of the cells …
