The Sn(IV) atom in the title compound, [Sn(C(6)H(5))(2)(C(10)H(8)NO)(NCS)], is chelated by the 2-methyl-quinolin-8-olate anion and is five-coordinate in a trigonal-bipramidal geometry [C-Sn-C = 133.47 (13) and 138.77 (12)°]. There are two independent mol-ecules of similar conformation in the asymmetric unit.

The carboxyl-ate ligand is monodentate and the amide O atom bridges a symmetry-related Sn atom, generating a chain along [010] with a linear topology. An intra-molecular carboxyl-ate-carbonyl N-H⋯O hydrogen bond is responsible for the curved conformation within the carboxyl-ate ligand.

We study materials that present challenges for conventional elemental mapping techniques and can in some cases be treated successfully using … articular material phases or molecular units rather than particular elements and is thus able to distinguish between TiO₂ and SnO₂. The 1-cyclo-pentyl-idene-4-ethyl-thio-semicarbazidate (cpetsc) ligand coordinates through the S atom and the N atom bonds to the cyclo-pentyl group, forming a five-membered ring with the Sn center. Endohedral clusters, formed by incorporating a single Mn atom into a cage of tin atoms, have been generated in the gas phase. The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of 2-PyMe2SiCH2SnBu3 with aryl iodide (Ar-I) exclusively produced the 2-PyMe2SiCH2 transferred product 2-PyMe2SiCH2Ar.
