[Dentigerous cyst in the mixed dentition].

Dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic cyst, which apparently develops by accumulation of fluid between the reduced enamel epithelium and the tooth crown of an unerupted tooth. Management of dentigerous cyst in primary dentition needs special consideration regarding the preservation of the developing permanent tooth buds. A case of dentigerous cyst is reported in primary dentition of a 7-year-old female patient and its management. By extracting the infected primary teeth, opening the cyst and ensuring continuous drainage, it is possible to achieve spontaneous eruption of the involved …

Posterior maxillary segmental osteotomy concomitant with sinus lift using a piezoelectric device.

Tooth loss evokes functional and esthetic problems, and adjacent teeth can move if they are not corrected in a timely manner, rendering the problems of restoring the dentition more complex. If the opposing tooth is consequently extruded, several treatment modalities may be adopted, such as occlusal adjustment, crown prosthesis, orthodontic treatment, and segmental osteotomy. Segmental osteotomy is the most aggressive and invasive treatment for restoring a problematic occlusal plane due to the complications, such as hemorrhage, loss of tooth vitality, or necrosis of the segment. Effect of Deep Margin Elevation on the Fracture Resistance of Maxillary Molar Zirconia Crowns.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of maxillary molar zirconia crowns cemented with deep margins relocated with resin composite. METHODS: A maxillary right first-molar typodont tooth was prepared for a complete-coverage zirconia crown and modified to have: (1-DME) a 3 mm deep and 3 mm wide box on the mesial margin; (2-DME) 3 mm deep and 3 mm wide boxes on both the mesial and distal margins; and (N-DME) no box modification. Before the first modification, 45 zirconia (4 mol% yttria) crowns were fabricated. The die was scanned before each modif

Short-Term Clinical Evaluation of Bioflx Crowns for Primary Molar Restoration in Children Aged 4-8 Years in Vietnam: A Pilot Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Stainless-steel preformed crowns (SSCs) are effective but esthetically unappealing, while zirconia preformed crowns require extensive tooth reduction. Bioflx preformed crowns combine esthetics and minimal preparation. AIM: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of Bioflx preformed crowns in restoring primary molars in children aged 4-8 years at Ho Chi Minh City Odonto-Maxillofacial Hospital in Vietnam. DESIGN: A single-arm pilot observational study (October 2023-June 2024) at Ho Chi Minh City Odonto-Maxillofacial Hospital involved primary molars treated with Bioflx crowns. Variab

Solving the Mystery: A Case Study on Treating a Mandibular First Premolar With Multiple Canals.

The mandibular first premolar, which is the anteriormost tooth in the mandibular arch, differs from other teeth in that it typically has two roots and two to four canals. The current case involves treating a mandibular first premolar with two canals through endodontic therapy. The 42-year-old male patient's left mandibular first premolar was diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis. The lateral view X-ray depicted two canals. In the dental procedure, endodontic treatment involves working under an operating microscope and using magnification to treat the affected tooth. After canal shaping the toot

Utilizing the Regional Acceleratory Phenomenon and Dental Implant Anchorage for Distalization and Intrusion of a Mesially Tipped Mandibular Molar: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Introduction of a surgical insult in conjunction with orthodontic therapy has been shown to accelerate treatment in minor tooth movement and comprehensive orthodontic cases by induction of the regional acceleratory phenomenon (RAP). When applying this concept to a molar tipped into an adjacent edentulous site, a dental implant can be planned to anchor the movement. CASE PRESENTATION: A generally and periodontally healthy 25-year-old patient presented missing tooth #19, with tooth #18 mesially tipped into the first molar crown space. A dental implant was placed in the #19 positio

Restoration of discolored endodontically treated anterior teeth: a minimally invasive chemomechanical approach.

In the case of discolored devitalized anterior teeth, several treatments are available to enhance the esthetic outcome, from noninvasive external/internal bleaching to freehand resin composites and more complex prosthetic solutions such as veneers or full crowns. Innovative computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) chairside technologies and the introduction of new industrially polymerized composite resin blocks coupled with modern adhesive strategies have reduced both biological and financial costs compared to the classic post-core-crown approach. The aim of this article is

Influence of aging on tooth eruption: experimental canine mandibular allograft.

PURPOSE: Aging is clinically related to tooth eruption; however, there are no known studies that have elucidated the relationship. We examined whether tooth eruption would occur normally in a mature subject. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using vascularized composite tissue mandibular transplantation, we extracted portions of immature mandibles including the tooth germs from young beagle dogs and placed them into unrelated immature and mature beagle dogs. We then examined eruption of the lower first molar in the grafted mandibular bone and compared the results clinically, radiographically, and histol

Prevalence of tooth agenesis and peg-shaped maxillary lateral incisor associated with palatally displaced canine (PDC) anomaly.

Fifty-eight nonsyndromic North American white orthodontic patients with palatal displacement of one or both maxillary canine teeth were studied for associated tooth agenesis and peg-shaped maxillary lateral incisors. Agenesis of permanent teeth was identified by x-ray film analysis. Conical crown-size reduction (peg-shape anomaly) of the maxillary lateral incisor (l2) was determined by direct observation. Increases in absence of third molars and second premolars associated with the palatally displaced canine (PDC) anomaly were statistically very highly significant compared with normative data

[New treatment protocols for avulsed teeth].

Traumatized teeth present a clinical challenge with regard to their diagnosis, treatment plan and prognosis. The injuries to the permanent dentition include crown and root fractures, subluxations, luxations and tooth avulsion. Common complications are pulp necrosis, periapical pathosis and root resorption. This article will describe new clinical modalities for the treatment of avulsed teeth and discuss the rational for their use.

Clinical and radiographic dental findings in X linked hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia.

X linked hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia was studied in the dentition of both affected males and carrier females. Hypodontia was more severe in males than females and there were differences in the pattern of tooth absence between the sexes. Abnormal crown form, with the maximum diameter of the teeth being apically displaced, was noted particularly in the anterior teeth. Taurodontism was commonly seen radiographically.

Invasive cervical root resorption: treatment rationale with an interdisciplinary approach.

Invasive cervical resorption (ICR) is a significant and often aggressive pathologic process that, unfortunately, might lead to tooth loss. The presence of such a lesion in the cervical area is always a clinical challenge. This article presents an ICR case in which successful treatment was achieved by combining 4 disciplines: endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, and prosthetics. Forced eruption combined with fiberotomy was used in this case for pulling the root rapidly from within the alveolar socket, thus exposing sound and healthy tooth material beyond the affected zone suitable for crown

Case of Pulp Regeneration Following Autologous Transplantation of an Incompletely Rooted Tooth.

Autologous tooth transplantation is a procedure that involves the replacement of a natural tooth with another at a new site or a surgically created recipient wound. With an appropriate selection of indications, studies report over 90% survival rates for transplanted teeth, even after 10 years. In this report, we presented a case of an incomplete rooted maxillary right third molar that was transplanted into the mandibular right first molar area. We also evaluated the stability of periodontal tissue, root development, and pulp regeneration after autologous tooth transplantation. The patient was

Reconsideration of Leeway Space Calculated Using Models from Same Patients at Different Growth Stages.

In this study, original leeway space was determined using plaster models prepared from the same individuals over successive years and compared with that reported in an earlier study. The plaster models used for measurement were prepared from a normal dentition group comprising 64 patients and a crowded dentition group comprising 29. The mesiodistal crown width of the deciduous canines, deciduous first molars, and deciduous second molars, as well as that of the canines, first premolars, and second premolars was measured. Leeway space was then calculated and the results compared with that previo
