Anesthetic Management of a Patient With Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMTD) is a hereditary peripheral neuropathy and is characterized by progressive muscle atrophy and motor-sensory disorders in all 4 limbs. Most reports have indicated that major challenges with general anesthetic administration in CMTD patients are the appropriate use of nondepolarizing muscle relaxants and preparation for malignant hyperthermia in neuromuscular disease. Moderate sedation may be associated with the same complications as those of general anesthesia, as well as dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system, reduced perioperative respiratory function, d

Improving the visibility of tooth cementum annulations by adjustment of the cutting angle of microscopic sections.

Age at death assessments by counting tooth cementum annulations (TCAs) in unstained undecalcified microscopic ground sections of (single rooted) teeth is, amongst others, problematic because of the unclear distinction between the bright and darker annulations. Counting is hampered by optical superimposition of the tangentially positioned layers of cementum in the section since 'regular transverse sections' run perpendicular to the axis of a cone-shaped root with its yearly deposited cone-shaped layers of cementum. This study demonstrates that to improve the visibility of the annulations, the c

Histological response to titanium endodontic endosseous implants in dogs.

Endodontic endosseous implants stabilize teeth that have crown-root ratios compromised by periodontal disease, trauma, or apical resorption. By increasing the crown-root ratio, the implant improves the prognosis of the tooth, thus increasing its longevity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate, in vivo, the healing response to a newly introduced titanium endodontic implant. Eight implants were placed in the maxillary incisors and mandibular premolars of two adult beagle dogs after completion of root canal and osseous preparation. Peri-implant tissues were examined radiographically and hist

Mandibular ceramic veneers: an examination of complex cases.

The indications for mandibular anterior ceramic veneers, tooth preparation design, provisionalization considerations, and placement procedures were presented in a previous article by the author. The functional utility, tissue biocompatibility, and dissimilarities of mandibular veneers, in comparison to maxillary anterior ceramic veneers, were explored, along with indications and contraindications for this form of treatment. This article demonstrates the aesthetic range of these restorations in the context of more complex cases. The learning objective of this article is to illustrate the viabil…

Nonsurgical Retreatment of a Mandibular Molar with Internal Resorption and a Separated Endodontic Instrument Deep within the Body of the Mandible.

Fracture of an endodontic instrument during an endodontic procedure is a common complication, but displacement of the separated instrument either inside or by the side of the inferior alveolar canal is very rare. This case report presents nonsurgical retreatment of a symptomatic, previously endodontically treated mandibular left first molar tooth with internal root resorption. The unique feature of this case report is the presence of a separated endodontic instrument entirely beyond the root apex and located deep within the body of the mandible. Under rubber dam isolation, access cavity prepar

Endodontic Management of a Mandibular First Molar With Radix Entomolaris: A Clinical Case Report.

Successful endodontic treatment depends on a comprehensive understanding of root canal anatomy and its possible variations. Radix entomolaris (RE) is a rare anatomical variant characterized by the presence of a supernumerary distolingual root, most frequently found in mandibular first molars. This case report describes the clinical and radiographic identification of an RE in the mandibular first molar of a 42-year-old male patient presenting with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. The additional root was identified during access cavity preparation, necessitating modification of the access outl

What Are the Potential Benefits of Using Bacteriophages in Periodontal Therapy?

Periodontitis, which may result in tooth loss, constitutes both a serious medical and social problem. This pathology, if not treated, can contribute to the development of, among others, pancreatic cancer, cardiovascular diseases or Alzheimer's disease. The available treatment methods are expensive but not always fully effective. For this reason, the search for and isolation of bacteriophages specific to bacterial strains causing periodontitis seems to be a great opportunity to target persistent colonization by bacterial pathogens and lower the use of antibiotics consequently limiting further d

Generalised versus Regional Odontodysplasia: Diagnosis, Transitional Management, and Long-Term Followup-A Report of 2 Cases.

Background. Odontodysplasia is an uncommon condition. It can be localised or generalised, isolated or part of a syndrome. Case Report. We first report the case of an 8.5-year-old boy who presented with abnormally shaped teeth and multiple intraoral abscesses. Findings of clinical and radiographic examinations were consistent with those of generalised odontodysplasia. A 2-step, conservative treatment plan was executed with a 10-year followup. Step 1 was root canal treatment of nonvital teeth. Step 2 was crowning without preparation of new vital, erupted, and malformed teeth. The second case is

Pulp-dentin biology in restorative dentistry. Part 7: The exposed pulp.

Exposure of the dental pulp, through a caries lesion, accidentally during routine cavity preparation, or as a result of tooth fracture, is a clinical reality that requires optimal treatment. The potential for healing by formation of a dentinal bridge is good, provided that the pulp is not inflamed. Calcium hydroxide has a long history of inducing dentinal bridge formation to promote successful healing. Resin composites are emerging as alternative materials for pulp capping, but healing is slower, and relatively little clinical experience is available for analysis. The prognosis for healing is

Comprehensive Comparative Analysis of the Efficiency of Two Clearing Agents in Natural Transparent Teeth Preparation for Dental Education.

AIM: To assess the effectiveness of the benzyl benzoate and benzyl alcohol (BABB) solution in transparent teeth preparation compared to methyl salicylate using comprehensive digital and radiographic quantitative values analysis. METHODOLOGY: Freshly extracted 32 single-rooted teeth were immersed in 10% formalin for 24 h. They were then processed following a standard demineralization and dehydration protocol. The teeth were then divided into two groups: the first group, consisting of 12 teeth, was immersed in the BABB solution for 24 h; the second group of 20 teeth underwent the traditional pr

Semaphorin 3A gets involved in the establishment of mouse tooth eruptive pathway.

The accurately establishment of the eruptive pathway is of vital importance. The mechanisms governing tooth eruption pathway remain little known. This study is to elucidate the roles of Semaphorin 3A (Sema 3A) in mouse tooth eruptive pathway. C57BL/6 mice (11-13 and 15-17 days after birth) were chosen to observe eruptive pathway of mouse lower first molar. Expressions of Sema 3A and its receptor neuropilin 1 and plexin A1 were detected. Osteoclasts were identified by TRAP staining. Co-localization of Sema 3A and osteoclast maker CD68 was detected by double immunofluorescence staining. Picrosir

Telescopic Partial Dentures-Concealed Technology.

The ideal goal of good dentist is to restore the missing part of oral structure, phonetics, his look and the most important is restored the normal health of the patient, which is hampered due to less or insufficient intake of food. Removable partial denture (RPD) treatment option is considered as a notion, which precludes the inevitability of "floating plastic" in edentulous mouth, that many times fail to fulfill the above essential of the patients. In modern dentistry, though the dental implants or fixed partial denture is the better options, but they have certain limitations. However, overde

[Usefulness of hydroxyapatite implants for the management of alveolar bone lesions at tooth hemisection sites].

INTRODUCTION: Hemisection is a surgical method for treating lesions of two- and multi-rooted teeth. This procedure includes amputation of one or two lesioned roots together with the attached dental crown, leaving an endodontically treated root and the remaining dental crown prepared for future prosthetic restoration. The results of this study demonstrate that HA Biocer implants create optimal conditions for new bone growth. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study was done in 51 patients after hemisection treated with HA Biocer in the form of granules implanted into the alveolus. The control group con

Influence of different transitional restorations on the fracture resistance of premolar teeth.

Controversy exists over the most favorable material and type of restoration to be used to transitionally restore teeth destined to be crowned. This in vitro study uses fracture resistance testing to compare eight different transitional restorations in maxillary premolars. Ninety sound maxillary premolars were randomly selected and allocated to nine groups, each comprising 10 teeth. One group remained unrestored and was used as the control. Teeth in the remaining groups were prepared to a standard cavity form using: a copy milling process removing the palatal cusp. Restorations were placed usin
