[Schizophrenia with manic paroxysms during its course].

A total of 34 patients with the monopolar manic course of paroxysm-like schizophrenia were studied for their premorbid characteristics and the nature of their paroxysms, remissions and personality changes. The premorbid characteristics were consistent with the personality structure of schizoids or hyperthymic psychopaths. Two different types of manic paroxysms were specified: simple manic states whose symptomatology was determined mostly by affective disturbances and manic-delirious paroxysms manifested in the form of mania with acute sensual delusion and manic-paranoid conditions. Certain dif

Depressive symptoms in patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator: Does treatment expectations play a role?

OBJECTIVE: Patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and co-morbid depression are at greater risk of poor quality of life and premature death. We examined if treatment expectations predict depressive symptoms 12months post implant. METHODS: First-time implant patients from the WEBCARE study (n=177; 83.1% men) completed the EXPECTations towards ICD therapy questionnaire and the Type D Scale at baseline, and the Patient Health Questionnaire at baseline and 12months. RESULTS: Using hierarchical linear regression with 3 models, we identified the following independent predicto

Measurement of Personality Structure by the OPD Structure Questionnaire Can Help to Discriminate Between Subtypes of Eating-Disorders.

BACKGROUND: Differentiation between purging type (AN-P) and restricting type (AN-R) is common in anorexia nervosa (AN) and relevant for clinical practice. However, differences of personality pathology in eating disorders (ED) and their subtypes, which can be captured by the operationalized psychodynamic diagnosis (OPD) system, have not been systematically investigated to date. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to explore differences in personality structure between the subtypes of AN and bulimia nervosa (BN) using the OPD structure questionnaire (OPD-SQ). Psychopathology in mountaineering--mental disturbances under high-altitude stress.

In the years 1960-1985 psychiatric and psychological research was conducted among a group of 80 Polish alpinists. Personality differences between hypertensive and normotensive individuals: influence of knowledge of hypertension status.

Personality characteristics such as anxiety and anger have long been associated with essential hypertension, but the results of past studies have often been confounded by inadequate diagnosis of hypertension, antihypertensive medications, and use of unvalidated measures of personality. Moreover, little attention has been given to the importance of differential exposure to medical attention and labeling as determinants of personality. To overcome these shortcomings, personality characteristics were measured by self-report using validated questionnaires in untreated male and female hypertensives

Psychosocial aspects of cardiac pacing.

The psychosocial effects of pacemaker implantation were analysed in 96 randomly selected patients receiving their first pacemaker at the Johannesburg General Hospital from August 1976 to December 1977. Perfectionism in anorexia nervosa: Associations with clinical picture and personality traits.

Although many researchers addressed the topics, no consistent data are currently available regarding the relationship between perfectionism and personality traits in anorexia nervosa (AN). The present study aimed to assess differences between high- and low-perfectionism groups of patients with AN and to identify which variables show the strongest association with perfectionism. A group of inpatients with AN (n = 193) was recruited and completed a battery of self-report questionnaires regarding eating-related and general psychopathology, perfectionism, and personality. On the basis of perfectio

Prevalence of the alternative model of personality disorders diagnoses in populational and at-risk samples, gender and age groups comparisons, and normative data for the LPFS-SR and PID-5.

The Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD), introduced in Section III of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5; American Psychiatric Association, 2013), was proposed as a new operationalization of personality disorders (PDs) aiming to overcome the several limitations of the traditional symptom-based model (Waugh et al., 2017; Zimmerman et al., 2019). In the AMPD, PDs are defined by two-dimensional criteria (the level of personality functioning and maladaptive personality traits), but as a hybrid model, it also allows for categorical assessment of PDs (i.e.

BACKGROUND: We tested the hypothesis that a functional biallelic repetitive element in the 5' regulatory region of the human serotonin transporter gene (SLC6A4) confers susceptibility to serotonin-related personality traits underlying alcohol dependence with dissocial behavior. METHODS: The association study was focused on 64 alcohol-dependent subjects with a dissocial personality disorder (according to ICD-10) who were derived from 315 German alcohol-dependent subjects.
