Numerous accounts documenting the introduction of foreign bodies into the urinary bladder have been reported. These foreign bodies are typically self-inserted via urethral but migration from adjacent organs by an ulcerative process and penetrating injuries are also reported. However, ''contrary'' migration of a self-inflicted vesical foreign body to the retroperitoneum was not previously reported in literature. We report here a case of a ballpoint pen self-inserted via urethral by a female patient, which was identified in retroperitoneal position years later.

In most cases the foreign body can be removed transurethrally with a pair of grasping forceps. In some cases objects have to be cut or resected into small fragments, making it easier to extract the object or wash it out. An open surgical procedure via suprapubic transvesical approach is reserved for large-sized bodies or in cases when endoscopic methods are unsuccessful. PURPOSE: To study the effects of methyltestosterone, isolated or associated to estrogens, on the bladder and urethra of castrated adult rats.
MATERIAL & METHODS: A total of 59 castrated animals were studied. They were divided into the following groups: I--placebo; II--equine conjugated estrogens; III--methyltestosterone and conjugated estrogens; IV--methyltestosterone. After 28 days of medication the animals were sacrificed and bladder and urethra cuts were obtained for the evaluation of the number of vessels, the thickness of the epithelia, and the quantity of collagen and muscular fibers.

INTRODUCTION: We report a case of recurrence of sigmoid colon cancer in the residual urethra after cysto-prostato-sigmoidectomy.
METHODS/RESULTS: The patient successfully underwent urethrectomy and is currently tumor-free. To our knowledge, this is the first case of recurrence of a non-urothelial malignant tumor in the residual urethra.

To examine the risk factors for urethral involvement in female patients after cystectomy for malignancy, a retrospective review of the records of 22 females treated with cystectomy for primary bladder malignancy were examined and analyzed with respect to presence of urethral involvement, tumor location, pathologic stage, tumor grade, lymph node status, and histologic cell type of the cancer. The aim of this work was to evaluate prostatic massage (PM) as diagnostic method of chronic chlamydial infection (possible etiologic agent of male infertility or chronic prostatitis). 105 men were examined. One urethral swabbing and one urine sampling are done before PM. After PM, prostatic fluid is collected spontaneously and in a minimum volume of urine. A common problem is to determine the site of the base of meatal warts in men and if the lesions will be suitable for the treatments available in genitourinary medicine (GUM) or sexually transmitted diseases (STD) clinics. Both man and monkey possess urothelial (transitional cell) receptors for P-fimbriae of Escherichia coli; however, the male urethra has pseudostratified columnar cells. We studied adherence using scanning electron microscopy and found that P-fimbriae were the principal mediators of adherence to these cells as well. The monkey, therefore, should be a good model for the study of the ascending route of infection in prostatitis, the route thought to occur in man.
