STUDY OBJECTIVES: Laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) has been used as treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The objective of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis for LAUP alone as treatment for OSA in adults.
METHODS: Three authors searched five databases (including PubMed/MEDLINE) from inception through October 30, 2016 for peer-reviewed studies, with any design/language. A study quality assessment tool was used. The PRISMA statement was followed. A meta-analysis was performed.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical efficacy of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) with hyoid suspension for patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).
METHOD: Thirty-eight OSAHS patients underwent UPPP with hyoid suspension. Review the sleep monitoring after 6 months and 1 year and compare the AHI, LSaO 2 and ESS score.
RESULT: The average AHI decreased, and blood oxygen saturation increased significantly afer operation.
CONCLUSION: UPPP with hyoid suspension is an available and relatively safe surgical approach in OSAHS patients.

PURPOSE: To determine the cause of globus sensation following laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty consecutive LAUP patients were questioned regarding globus sensation. Palate sensation on globus patients was mapped and compared with asymptomatic LAUP control patients. Symptomatic patients were tested again 2 months later.
RESULTS: There was a 25% incidence of globus with 8% rated severe and 16% rated mild. The globus sensation corresponds to an insensate area of palate (P < .01). Resolution of the symptoms coincides with reemergence of sensation on the palat

Angioedema is a well-known complication of medical therapy with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Isolated uvular angioedema, a rare presentation of angioedema, in a patient taking lisinopril (Zestril) is described in this case report. Management of uvular edema is also reviewed.

Other upper airway structures, most notably the epiglottis, may also become involved, and complete or partial airway obstruction may ensue rapidly. We describe a case of an eupnoeic patient complaining of a foreign body sensation in his mouth and throat, with sudden drooling and supine gagging. This condition was caused by an isolated uvular angioedema (Quincke's oedema). As this uvular hydrops did not decrease with initial standard therapy for angioedema, epinephrin was applied directly on the swollen uvula, causing it to shrink very rapidly. Acute oedema of the uvula is relatively rare, and often idiopathic. None the less, possible causes should be excluded, such as allergy, infection, trauma or mechanical. Hereditary angioneurotic oedema should be excluded when there are identical recurrent episodes. Although three of our patients had a recent herpetic viral infection, it does not seem likely that this was the cause.
