Sodium appetite decreased by central angiotensin blockade.

Disturbances in body water and electrolytes that trigger sodium appetite, such as sodium depletion or hypovolemia, are potent activators of the renin-angiotensin system. In the absence of an actual deficit in body fluids, angiotensin injections are adequate to stimulate increased sodium ingestion. To assess whether angiotensin is a significant mediator of sodium appetite induced by acute alterations in body fluids, sodium intake was examined in rats during central or peripheral angiotensin blockade. Central blockade of angiotensin receptors by intracerebroventricular (ICVT) injection of the an

Effect of indomethacin in two siblings with a renin-dependent hypertension, hyperaldosteronism and hypokalemia.

Two siblings are described with hypertension, hyperreninism, hyperaldosteronism and hypokalemia. Propranolol therapy lowered blood pressure markedly, but failed to normalize serum potassium. Indomethacin orally decreased blood pressure and normalized all biochemical abnormalities. We suggest that in these patients there exists a renin-dependent hypertension in combination with a state of hyperprostaglandinism. It is likely from our studies in these 2 patients, that the state of hyperprostaglandinism is secondary to a hypertension with increased sympathetic tone.

Effect of digitalis on diminished baroreceptor sensitivity in diabetics.

The baroreceptor sensitivity was estimated in 50 normal controls (Group A) and in 50 diabetics of comparable age (Group B). The technique used was infusion of angiotensin (0.5 microgram/min) and measurement of the bradycardic response resulting from the increase of blood pressure. The slope was used as an index of baroreceptor sensitivity. Diabetics had significantly lower baroreceptor sensitivity and a higher resting heart rate. Sensitivity decreased with age in both groups. The reproducibility of the method was excellent. Deslanoside-C (0.8 mg) significantly increased the baroreceptor sensit

[Renal kallikrein-kinin system and control of blood pressure (author's transl)].

Kallikrein excreted with the urine appears to be formed in the kidney. The kallikrein-kinin system in the kidney is localized in the distal nephron from the juxtaglomerular apparatus to the collecting duct. It has been shown that intrarenal infusion of kinins produces an increase in renal blood flow as well as diuresis and natriuresis. Part of the effect of kinins appears to be mediated by the release of prostaglandins. However, the precise role of the renal kallikrein-kinin system in sodium and volume homeostasis and in blood pressure regulation still remains to be determined. Mineralocortico

Furosemide-augmented intravenous urography: results in essential hypertension.

Giving an intravenous diuretic during urography (furosemide-augmented urography, vasodilated urography) causes renal swelling which is easily measured. Several investigators have used this observation as the basis of a screening test for renovascular hypertension. They found that normal kidneys enlarge in area by more than 10%, while kidneys with renal artery stenosis show a blunted size response, usually less than 5%. We used the technique in 46 patients with proven essential hypertension in order to further examine its potential usefulness in the hypertensive population. The 92 kidneys showe

[Aldosteroneia in acute kidney failure].

In 19 patients with acute renal insufficiency the plasma renin activity (PRA) and the aldosteronaemia were determined during the phase of anuria and oliguria. Significantly elevated PRA values were found while plasma aldosterone was only moderately elevated in the blood plasma. Apart from this a significantly negative correlation between the aldosterone level and the sodium and bicarbonate concentrations in the blood plasma were found. The lack of a significant positive correlation between PRA and plasma aldosterone levels suggests the participation of factors other than renin in the regulatio

Effect of pressor agents on blood pressure, plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone concentration in essential hypertension.

The responses of blood pressure, plasma renin activity (PRA) and plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) to infusion of either angiotensin II (10 ng/Kg/min) or norepinephrine (100 ng/Kg/min) were observed in 25 patients with essential hypertension. The difference in modes of response between low renin essential hypertension and normal or high renin essential hypertension was analyzed. For comparison, 5 patients with Conn's syndrome, 4 with renovascular hypertension, and 5 normotensive subjects were also studied. Following infusion of antiotensin II the changes in diastolic blood pressure (DBP) …

Astragaloside IV Exerts a Myocardial Protective Effect against Cardiac Hypertrophy in Rats, Partially via Activating the Nrf2/HO-1 Signaling Pathway.

Previous evidence suggested that astragaloside IV (ASIV) had a cardioprotective effect, but the potential mechanisms were undetermined. This … vating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway. We established a cardiomyocyte hypertrophy model induced by angiotensin II (Ang II), which was then transfected with Nrf2 shRNA, to knock down the expression of the Nrf2 gene. We found that the protective effect of ASIV against Ang II-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy was abolished in the Nrf2 shRNA transfection group, ult …

Protection of Luteolin-7-O-glucoside against apoptosis induced by hypoxia/reoxygenation through the MAPK pathways in H9c2 cells.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Myocardial hypertrophy is often associated with myocardial infarction. Luteolin-7-O-glucoside (LUTG) has the prosperity of preventing cardiomyocyte injury. The current study aimed to explore the potential protective effect of LUTG and its relevant mechanisms in the heart. To establish the cardiac hypertrophy model in vitro, Angiotensin II (Ang II) was used to stimuli H9c2 cells in this study. The CCK‑8 assay showed that LUTG pretreatment improved cell viability of cardiomyocytes co‑treated with Ang II and ischemia/reperfusion. LUTG decreased the reactive oxygen species levels. Furthermore, it …

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of Scrophulariae of cold nature and Aconite of hot nature on myocardial hypertrophy and neuroendocrine fac … ex (HWI) were determined. The concentrations of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in plasma and angiotensin II (Ang II) in myocardium were detected through radio-immunity method. Cardiocyte cross-section area was determined by using HE staining. RESULTS: Scrophulariae of cold nature could significantly reduce the LVWI, HWI and cardiocyte cross-section area, …

Drinking and natriuresis during volume expansion and intracranial angiotensin or carbachol.

Two methods of sodium loading were used to counteract the body fluid dilution resulting from natriuresis and water drinking during sustained lateral ventricular infusions of carbachol (CBC) or angiotensin II (ANG II) in rats. It was expected that preventing dilution would also prevent the precipitous decline of both drinking and natriuresis during the later hours of CBC infusion. In the first study, rats having isotonic saline as the sole drinking fluid during CBC infusions drank less fluid and had only slightly higher plasma osmolality and sodium concentration than rats drinking water, which …

Peripherally derived angiotensin converting enzyme-enhanced macrophages alleviate Alzheimer-related disease.

Targeted overexpression of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), an amyloid-β protein degrading enzyme, to brain resident microglia and peripheral myelomonocytes (ACE10 model) substantially diminished Alzheimer's-like disease in double-transgenic APPSWE/PS1ΔE9 (AD+) mice. In this study, we explored the impact of selective and transient angiotensin-converting enzyme overexpression on macrophage behaviour and the relative contribution of bone marrow-derived ACE10 macrophages, but not microglia, in attenuating disease progression. To this end, two in vivo approaches were applied in AD+ mice: (i) A
