Birth Cohort Study on Longitudinal Impact of Internal Migration Status on Routine Vaccination Coverage in the First Three Years of Life - Beijing, China, 2021-2025.

WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN ABOUT THIS TOPIC?: High population mobility frequently undermines public health efforts to maintain immunization coverage, as mobile families often face barriers to accessing consistent healthcare. WHAT IS ADDED BY THIS REPORT?: Migration across provincial-level administrative divisions (PLADs) drives progressively widening coverage disparities while contributing to delayed vaccination and missed catch-up opportunities within the National Immunization Program (NIP) during the first three years of life in China. WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH PRACTICE?: Thes

Experiences of Health Care and Psychosocial Needs in Parents of Children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by progressive weakness, respiratory insufficiency, and dysphagia. Due to symptom burden and disease progress, its care management and impact on daily life can severely burden the families of affected children. The objectives of this study are (1) to explore the health care experiences and (2) to investigate the psychosocial needs of the parents of children with SMA. In total, 29 parents of patients with SMA participated in our study. All children received supportive therapy (e.g., physiotherapy) and most were

Caregiver Burden, Stress, and Relationship Cohesion Among Self-Identified Caregivers of Children with Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome.

Objective: Children with Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) experience sudden onset neuropsychiatric symptoms after infection or other triggers. Symptoms range from mild to severe, potentially lasting days, weeks, months, or longer. Exacerbation-related functional decline presents in many aspects of daily life, generally accompanied by family stress and caregiver burden. We sought to investigate the relationship between severity of PANS symptoms and caregiver burden/stress and the relationship between severity of PANS symptoms and degree of caregiver/child cohesion. Methods

The Magnitude of Wasting and Associated Factors among Children Aged 2-5 Years in Southern Ethiopia: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition accounts for almost half of the global under-five child mortality. Worm infections are one of the immediate and commonest causes that affect the nutritional status of children. There is limited data related to the magnitude of wasting and associated factors among children. Therefore, this study was aimed at assessing the magnitude of wasting and associated factors among children aged 2 to 5 years in the Wonago district of Gedeo Zone, southern Ethiopia. METHODS: Community-based cross-sectional study design was conducted. A total of 3324 children aged 2-5 years were inc

Recording Risk Factors of Physical Abuse in Children Younger Than 36 Months With Bone Fractures: A 12-Years Retrospective Study in an Italian General Hospital Emergency Room.

Skeletal fractures (SFs) are very common in pediatrics. In some cases, they are secondary to child abuse. Differentiation of accidental from non-accidental fractures (NAFs) is essential as in abused children risk of further injuries leading to severe clinical problems and death is significant. Main objectives of this study were to evaluate the characteristics of SFs of children ≤3 years of age presenting to the Emergency Room (ER) of a Children's Teaching Hospital over a 12-year period and the attention paid by ER physicians to the identification of the indicators that increase suspicion of NA

[Child behavior disorder : clinical reasoning in general practice].

CONTEXT: in Belgium 70 % of the children aged 0 - 14 years have at least one annual contact with their family doctor, while for the same period, only 6 - 12 % of them will see a neuropaediatrician and/or a child psychiatrist, despite the fact that a diagnostic of Externalizing behavior before the age of 6 to 7 years, such as various ways of aggressiveness, of anger or of stealing will very often alert the family, the staff of creches or nursery as well as the teachers. Prenatal exposure to very severe maternal obesity is associated with adverse neuropsychiatric outcomes in children.

BACKGROUND: Prenatal maternal obesity has been linked to adverse childhood neuropsychiatric outcomes, including increased symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), internalizing and externalizing problems, affective disorders and neurodevelopmental problems but few studies have studied neuropsychiatric outcomes among offspring born to very severely obese women or assessed potential familial confounding by maternal psychological distress. METHOD: We evaluated neuropsychiatric symptoms in 112 children aged 3-5 years whose mothers had participated in a longitudinal study of ob

Children's Oral Health Initiative: workers' perspectives on its impact in First Nations communities.

INTRODUCTION: Since 2004, the Children's Oral Health Initiative (COHI) has been working in many First Nations and Inuit communities in Canada to address oral health disparities, specifically early childhood caries (ECC). The COHI community-based approach improves early childhood oral health (ECOH) by balancing prevention with minimally invasive dentistry. The goal is to reduce the burden of oral disease, mainly by minimizing the need for surgery. We investigated program success in First Nations communities in the province of Manitoba, from the perspective of COHI staff. METHODS: First Nations

Success of 4CMenB in preventing meningococcal disease: evidence from real-world experience.

Meningococcal disease remains one of the most feared infectious diseases worldwide because of its sudden onset, rapid progression and high case fatality rates, while survivors are often left with severe long-term sequelae. Young children have the highest incidence of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD), and nearly all cases in the UK, as in most of Europe and many other industrialised countries, are due to group B meningococci (MenB). The licensure of a broad-coverage, recombinant protein-based MenB vaccine (4CMenB) in 2013 was, therefore, heralded a major breakthrough in the fight against IM

Environmental Issues in Global Pediatric Health: Policy Statement.

Pediatricians and pediatric trainees in North America are increasingly involved in caring for children and adolescents in or from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In many LMICs, hazardous environmental exposures-notably outdoor and household air pollution, water pollution, lead, pesticides, and other manufactured chemicals-are highly prevalent and account for twice the proportion of disease and deaths among young children as in North America. Climate change will likely worsen these exposures. It is important that pediatricians and other pediatric health professionals from high-income

Survey items chosen to create this profile of middle childhood described sociodemographic and family characteristics, health status, and behaviors. Weighted descriptive and bivariate analyses were applied to exam

Role of New Biomarkers in the Early Diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes: A Mini Review.

Gestational diabetes (GDM) has become a major public health problem in recent years and one of the most debated topics in women's health. GDM is associated with serious health consequences for both the mother and the child in the short and long term. The prevalence of GDM varies between 0.6% and 20% (depending on the detection method, gestational age, and the population studied). Genetic, nutritional, epigenetic, immunological, and hormonal components have been identified in its pathophysiology. Today, the importance of identifying a biomarker to detect GDM from the beginning of pregnancy in w

Debate: How the business model of social media fuels the need for greater moderation.

The current business model of social media companies is to keep users engaged and on screen, so that data can be obtained from them, and targeted advertisements sold. To maintain user engagement, recommender systems (algorithms) promote content, which can be extreme, and includes mental health content. Extreme mental health content, such as self-harm images, can be pushed to any user and then more and more extreme content can be pushed to them. The normalisation, amplification or glamorisation of harmful content can have negative impacts upon the user, who may struggle to express what is happe
