Edge Computing for Environment-Based Locomotion Modes Prediction and Terrain Features Calculation in Lower Limb Prostheses.

Wearable lower-limb prostheses benefit from environment-aware control, yet strict on-device constraints (size and compute) make real-time perception and decision-making challenging. We present an edge-computing framework that integrates two inertial measurement units with an event-triggered array LiDAR sensor to enable synchronous locomotion modes prediction and terrain features calculation. Joint kinematics from the IMUs dynamically trigger LiDAR scans at critical gait phases, reducing LiDAR active sensing time while preserving forward terrain information for decision-making. The complete pip

Emerging technologies and strategies in epilepsy surgery: toward personalised medicine.

Epilepsy surgery, the treatment of choice for drug-resistant focal epilepsy, is evolving rapidly. This progress is driven by a growing interest in the network theory of epilepsy, advances in data-driven models, and a focus on personalised treatment approaches. As a result, treatment options have expanded to include minimally invasive procedures, neurostimulation devices, and network-based interventions. Predicting surgical outcomes-such as seizure freedom and neuropsychological effects-remains challenging but is improving through advances in computational technology and molecular research, pav

Gate-Tunable GeSe/MoSe2 Heterojunctions for In-Sensor Image Processing.

The physical separation of sensing and processing units in traditional vision systems creates latency and energy-efficiency bottlenecks. In-sensor computing, capable of processing visual information directly in the analog domain, offers a promising solution. Herein, we report a high-performance, gate-tunable GeSe/MoSe2 van der Waals heterostructure designed for simultaneous light sensing and in-sensor computing. By engineering a Type-II band alignment at the heterointerface, the device achieves efficient charge separation, thereby enabling the suppression of dark current and effective gate tun

Pseudopheochromocytoma With Catecholamine Excess and End-organ Damage: A 30-year Course Treated With Escitalopram.

Pseudopheochromocytoma is a disorder characterized by paroxysmal hypertension and variably elevated catecholamine metabolite levels. Pseudopheochromocytoma clinically mimics pheochromocytoma but differs in etiology. While pheochromocytoma is a catecholamine-secreting neuroendocrine tumor, pseudopheochromocytoma is a syndrome linked to a history of emotional stressors and is believed to stem from autonomic nervous system dysregulation. We present the case of a 70-year-old female patient experiencing episodic hypertensive crises for 3 decades. The patient was referred to endocrine oncology for e

On-the-fly cavity-molecular dynamics of vibrational polaritons.

In this work, we combine the density functional tight-binding (DFTB) approach with a light-matter Hamiltonian beyond the long-wavelength approximation to simulate vibrational polaritons formed by coupling molecular vibrations to confined radiation inside a Fabry-Pérot optical cavity. Here, we develop a parallelized propagation scheme with lightweight inter-CPU communication by exploiting the sparse nature of the light-matter interactions in the real space representation. We find that the computationally expensive Born charges required for our propagation can be replaced with the computationall

Escape over a saddle by colored noise: Theory and numerics.

Stochastic dynamical systems allow modeling of transitions induced by random disturbances, in particular from an attracting equilibrium and crossing the stable manifold of a saddle. While the small-noise limit is well-described by the large deviation principle, existing computational methods often struggle with stochastic forcings any more complicated than nondegenerate Gaussian white noise, and with unbounded time intervals. The primary innovations of this work are extending the framework to cater for colored and degenerate forcing and unbounded time horizons-scenarios that are physically rea

De-Cluttering Scatterplots With Integral Images.

Scatterplots provide a visual representation of bivariate data (or 2D embeddings of multivariate data) that allows for effective analyses of data dependencies, clusters, trends, and outliers. Unfortunately, classical scatterplots suffer from scalability issues, since growing data sizes eventually lead to overplotting and visual clutter on a screen with a fixed resolution, which hinders the data analysis process. We propose an algorithm that compensates for irregular sample distributions by a smooth transformation of the scatterplot's visual domain. Our algorithm evaluates the scatterplot's den

Posttranslationally modified self-peptides promote hypertension in mouse models.

Posttranslational modifications can enhance immunogenicity of self-proteins. In several conditions, including hypertension, systemic lupus erythematosus, and heart failure, isolevuglandins (IsoLGs) are formed by lipid peroxidation and covalently bond with protein lysine residues. Here, we show that the murine class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC-I) variant H-2Db uniquely presents isoLG-modified peptides and developed a computational pipeline that identifies structural features for MHC-I accommodation of such peptides. We identified isoLG-adducted peptides from renal proteins, includin
