Primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (PHO), also known as pachydermoperiostosis, is a rare genetic disorder with autosomal inheritance. We present the case of a 31-year-old male with a disease onset at 12 years of age, initially presenting as digital clubbing of the hands and feet and ankle joint hypertrophy. The clinical phenotype progressed significantly by age 17, with the development of marked facial skin thickening, deepened centripetal skin folds, a corrugated scalp, hypertrophic alae nasi, acne, ptosis, and palmoplantar hyperhidrosis. Anemia was identified at age 19, accompanied by per

BACKGROUND: Osteomas are asymptomatic, benign tumors and are diagnosed accidentally by radiological investigations conducted for other reasons. In some cases, they may cause aesthetic or functional symptoms by affecting nearby organs. The cause of osteoma is still dialectical. Many theories suggest that inflammation, trauma, or congenital causes are behind its formation. In our case, the patient presented with a symptomatic and huge osteoma in the frontoparietal bone caused by trauma from 18 years ago.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Pachydermoperiostosis (PDP) is a syndrome characterised by the triad of pachydermia, digital clubbing and periostosis of long bones and its scarce incidence and similarity in clinical features with acromegaly makes the diagnosis challenging. The elevated PGE2 levels have been hypothesised as one of its mechanisms and therapies have been targeted to inhibit this prostaglandin.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 25-year-old man with no comorbidities presented to OPD with a 10-year history of bilateral pain and swelling of the hands and feets associated with hyperhidrosis, grade I

The Sauvé-Kapandji procedure (SK), which combines distal radioulnar joint arthrodesis with creation of an ulnar pseudarthrosis, achieves good outcomes with few complications for patients with distal radioulnar joint instability or arthritis. The authors describe a case of atypical fracture of the radial diaphysis that occurred in a 79-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis who had undergone SK 18 years earlier. The patient had taken alendronate for osteoporosis for 13 years but had discontinued treatment 2 years before onset of symptoms. Retrospective review of serial radiographs revealed fo

Mutations in the intraflagellar transport-A (IFT-A) gene, THM1, have been identified in skeletal ciliopathies. Here, we report a genetic interaction between Thm1, and its paralog, Thm2, in postnatal skeletogenesis. THM2 localizes to primary cilia, but Thm2 deficiency does not affect ciliogenesis and Thm2-null mice survive into adulthood. However, by postnatal day 14, Thm2-/-; Thm1aln/+ mice exhibit small stature and small mandible. Radiography and microcomputed tomography reveal Thm2-/-; Thm1aln/+ tibia are less opaque and have reduced cortical and trabecular bone mineral density. In the mutan

Cadaveric mechanical testing of a percutaneous osseointegration docking system (PODS) for osseointegration (OI) prosthetic limb attachment revealed that translation of the exact system from the humerus to the tibia may not be suitable. The PODS, designed specifically for the humerus achieved 1.4-4.8 times greater mechanical stability in the humerus than in the tibia despite morphology that indicated translational feasibility. To better understand this discrepancy, finite element analyses (FEAs) modeled the implantation of the PODS into the bones. Models from cadaveric humeri (n = 3) and tibia

INTRODUCTION: Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is a benign bone tumor that occurs more in young females and anterior of the mandible. It can be unilocular or multilocular with wispy-septation, undulating borders, cortical expansion, and perforation. Central giant cell granuloma in association with other benign lesions of the jaws is named hybrid lesion. An aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a rare, rapidly growing benign tumor that is commonly developed in young females and the mandible molar and ramus regions. It is usually a well-defined cyst-like expansile lesion with an internal structure si

BACKGROUND Odontogenic fibroma is a rare mesenchymal odontogenic tumor. It can be classified as central odontogenic fibroma (COF) or peripheral odontogenic fibroma (POF) based on clinical features. There are several variants of COF, including amyloid, ossifying, and giant cell. It grows slowly and exhibits painless cortical expansion of the jawbone. Radiographically, COF appears as a radiolucent unilocular or multilocular lesion with well-defined borders. COF may be associated with unerupted or displaced teeth and root resorption. Objectives: Stress fractures (SFx) occur as the result of repetitive loads over short periods of time, which leads to micro-damage of the bone through cortical resorption, ultimately leading to fracture. They are a common injury in female athletes and often cause significant morbidity. The goal of this study is to review the presentation, diagnosis, classification, treatment, and prevention of SFx in female athletes. Results: A thorough history, physical exam, and appropriate imaging can facilitate early diagnosis of stress fracture (SFx) and faster resolution of symptoms with more conservative

Juvenile Paget's disease (JPD) is a rare recessively-inherited bone dysplasia. The great majority of cases described to date have had homozygous mutations in TNFRSF11B, the gene encoding osteoprotegerin. We describe a boy who presented with recurrent clavicular fractures following minor trauma (8 fractures from age 2 to 11). He was of normal height and despite mild lateral bowing of the thighs and anterior bowing of the shins he remained physically active. Abnormal modelling was noted in ribs and humeri on clavicular radiographs, and a skeletal survey at the age of 7 showed generalised diaphys
