Effectiveness of psychological interventions for reducing depressive symptoms among women experiencing perinatal depression: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Psychological interventions are well established as effective treatments for perinatal depression, with strong evidence supported by randomized controlled trials carried out in diverse cultural contexts and in settings with limited resources. Approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, problem-solving therapy, interpersonal therapy, and community based models that rely on task-sharing have repeatedly shown meaningful reductions in depressive symptoms and notable improvements in maternal functioning and overall well-being. These interventions are especially important in low- an

Impact of a Geriatric Co-management Service on Surgical Cancer Care for Older Adults.

In 2011, Brown University Health's Division of Geriatrics started its inaugural geriatric co-management service to improve older adult (OA) care for patients with hip fractures. Its success in care and cost reduction prompted the health system to expand geriatric co-management. Meanwhile, oncology surgeons treat increasingly older and frailer patients due to improved therapies and survival. The literature established what we saw here: increased mortality and complications in frail OA and failure of strategies like Enhanced Recovery After Surgery and Prehabilitation. In 2021, the division launc

Evaluating Pay-It-Forward Strategy to Promote Hepatitis B Virus and Hepatitis C Virus Testing Among International Migrants From Low- and Middle-Income Countries in China: Protocol for a Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) are significant global health concerns, particularly prevalent in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In China, a significant number of international migrants from LMICs reside, many of whom are at high risk of HBV and HCV infection, while this group tends to engage in low HBV and HCV test use due to some adverse factors. Pay-it-forward (PIF) is a social innovation strategy that is based on the theories of upstream reciprocity and mutual aid. Previous studies have shown that the PIF strategy has proven effective in promoting

Fever, Frustration and Fortitude: A Qualitative Exploration of Nursing Practice in Paediatric Settings.

BACKGROUND: Fever is one of the most common symptoms in children and a leading cause of their hospitalisation. Nurses, as primary caregivers in paediatric wards, play a pivotal role in the assessment and management of children with fever. However, nurses' perceptions and experiences of fever management are influenced by cultural contexts, psychological and social factors, as well as prevailing health system policies. AIM: The aim of the study was to explore nurses' perceptions influencing their management of childhood fever, including barriers and facilitators to evidence-based practice. DES

Effectiveness and Implementation of Adapted Physical Activity Delivery Strategies for Older Adults Living With HIV in Ivory Coast: Protocol for a Type 2 Hybrid Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: With improved access to antiretroviral treatment, HIV infection has become a chronic disease, and the proportion of people living with HIV aged 50 years or older is increasing. However, the long-term evolution of this disease is associated with an increased risk of comorbidities and functional impairments, which negatively impact the social participation and quality of life of people living with HIV. In resource-limited countries, population aging is a new situation, and significant challenges remain unaddressed to respond to this demographic shift. Strong evidence supports the rol

Feasibility Testing a Meditation App for Professionals Working With Youth in the Legal System: Protocol for a Hybrid Type 2 Effectiveness-Implementation Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Probation officers and other professionals who work with youth in the legal system often experience high chronic workplace stress, which can contribute over time to elevations in anxiety, depression, and workplace burnout. Emotion dysregulation appears to function as a common mechanism underlying these elevations, and growing evidence suggests it can be improved with mindfulness meditation. Implemented successfully, app-based meditation programs could provide professionals with real-time tools for mitigating the effects of chronic workplace stress. OBJECTIVE: This paper describes

Pregnant women as a sentinel population for genomic surveillance of malaria in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: a population-based study.

BACKGROUND: Genomic surveillance is a valuable tool for detecting changes in the drug susceptibility of malaria parasites, enabling timely adjustments to treatment strategies. However, implementation can be costly and challenging in high-burden countries, especially when targeting cohorts of children. To address these challenges, we investigated whether in the Democratic Republic of the Congo pregnant women attending antenatal care services could act as an effective sentinel population for children in the same area. METHODS: This population-based study aimed to target pregnant women in Kinsha

The clinical and cost effectiveness of a conservative treatment pathway compared to appendicectomy in children with uncomplicated acute appendicitis: study protocol for a randomised controlled multi-centre open-label parallel-group non-inferiority trial (CONTRACT 2 trial) in the United Kingdom (UK).

BACKGROUND: Currently, the most frequently used treatment for acute appendicitis in children in the United Kingdom (UK) is an appendicectomy. However, there is increasing scientific and patient interest and research into non-operative treatment of appendicitis. Despite a number of non-randomised studies in children and randomised studies in adults, comparative outcomes of non-operative treatment and appendicectomy in comparable groups of children remain unknown. Following the successful completion of a feasibility study, we now aim to perform a UK-based multi-centre open-label randomised contr

Missed Opportunities in Orthopaedics for Intimate Partner Violence Identification: A Retrospective Review Over 24 years.

BACKGROUND: Intimate partner violence (IPV) commonly manifests as a musculoskeletal injury, yet the majority of orthopaedic surgeons estimate IPV to be rare in "their" orthopaedic patients. This work aimed to (1) provide education on the prevalence and manifestations of IPV, (2) investigate departmental referral patterns to Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs (DAIP) at 2 high-volume quaternary-academic centers, and (3) characterize IPV cases identified by orthopaedic surgery providers. METHODS: The DAIP registry from 2000 to 2024 was queried for patients reporting IPV. Referrals were categor

Living donor liver transplantation in transplant oncology: A disease-specific framework for access, timing, and donor risk.

Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) should not only be evaluated as an alternative graft source in transplant oncology; it should also be evaluated as a disease-specific intervention on access and oncologic time. By removing dependence on deceased-donor availability, LDLT can convert an uncertain wait into a planned operation-but that temporal advantage is not biologically neutral, and its consequences differ sharply by tumor type. In hepatocellular carcinoma, an abbreviated wait can reduce waitlist dropout but may also shorten the interval during which aggressive biology would otherwise
