The effectiveness of intramuscular 15-methyl-prostaglandin F2alpha (15-methyl-PGF2alpha) application for therapeutic abortion was studied in 16 women during the first and second trimester (12 to 17 weeks) of pregnancy. 250 microgram 15-methyl-PGF2alpha were administered initial and at intervals of 2 hours. Of the 16 subjects, 2 aborted completely, 13 aborted incompletely and 1 failed to abort. The mean abortion time for the 15 successful abortions was 11,25 hours and the mean 15-methyl-PGF2alpha dosage 1,35 mgs. The effect of vitamin A deficiency on the sensitivity of the colon to the carcinogenic effect of N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG), a direct-acting carcinogen, given intrarectally was studied in female Fischer rats. Animals maintained on Purina laboratory chow, semipurified vitamin A-free diet, or semipurified vitamine A-supplemented diet were given intrarectally 1.25, 0.63, or 0.31 mg MNNG 3 times weekly for 30 weeks and autopsied at the 45th week. Antitussive activity and some other related pharmacological properties of d-3-methyl-N-methylmorphinan were studied. Toxic symptoms in mice and dogs were due to the CNS excitation. Acute toxicity of (AT-17) in mice was slightly (s.c.) or far (p.o.) weaker than that of codeine, but it was three times as toxic as codeine in dogs (i.v.). Antitussive efficacy was about 40% of that of codeine in dogs, whereas 77% as potent as codeine in cats. A synthetic compound, 2a, 2b dihomo 15 (S) 15 methyl prostaglandin F 2 alpha methyl ester given 8-hourly by intramuscular injection was used to terminate pregnancies in 72 patients with a missed abortion, intrauterine fetal death, molar or anencephalic pregnancies. Treatment was successful in all cases. A 4 mg dose of loperamide given orally at 15 to 30 minutes before the injection of prostaglandin analogue prevented diarrhoea as a side effect.

The work deals with the extraction of thorium or uranium from hydrochloric, perchloric, sulphuric or nitric acid solutions of various concentrations, or from mixed acid solutions, by means of isobutyl methyl ketone. When the extraction is made from 5-8M hydrochloric acid that is 10M in lithium chloride or from 7-8M hydrochloric acid that is 1M in magnesium chloride, uranium is extracted quantitatively (>99%), whereas thorium is hardly extracted at all.
