Understanding femoral nerve injuries during extreme lateral lumbar interbody fusion using transabdominal muscle action potential and an event-based protocol.

OBJECTIVE: Extreme lateral lumbar interbody fusion (XLIF) carries a significant risk of femoral nerve injury, particularly at L4-5, where neural structures are close to the transpsoas corridor. While neuromonitoring techniques such as triggered electromyography and somatosensory evoked potentials are widely used, they lack the real-time sensitivity and specificity necessary for reliably detecting nerve compromise. The absence of real-time neuromonitoring data in XLIF has limited the understanding of when and how femoral nerve injuries occur, leaving surgeons without a clear strategy to mitigat

From an Age-Stratified Perspective: Divergent Adaptive Mechanisms of the Traumatic Brain Injury Repair Network Between Pediatric and Adult Patients.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains a leading cause of chronic neurological impairment across the lifespan, with significant disparities in clinical recovery trajectories between pediatric and adult patients. Previous research has often been confined to a binary debate over the relative repair capacity of different age groups; however, this paradigm is insufficient for exploring the age-dependent molecular mechanisms of adaptation in depth. This review proposes a "divergent adaptation" theoretical framework to systematically analyze age-dependent differences in the brain-derived neurotrophic

Eosinophilia-related adverse events reporting associated with medications: a disproportionality and regression analysis of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System.

INTRODUCTION: Eosinophilia encompasses a wide spectrum of hematologic and non-hematologic disorders, and may lead to clinically significant organ damage. Although numerous medications have been implicated in eosinophilia and related hypersensitivity reactions, their overall drug-associated risk remains unclear. Real-world pharmacovigilance data can provide important insights into rare but serious eosinophilia-related adverse events (AEs). This study investigated the demographic and drug-related risk factors for eosinophilia-associated AEs using a large dataset from the US Food and Drug Adminis

Bayesian probabilistic density mapping of the decussating dentato-rubro-thalamic tract to predict clinical tremor improvement in MRgFUS.

OBJECTIVE: Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) is increasingly recognized as an effective treatment option for patients with medication-refractory essential tremor (ET). Indirect coordinates of the ventral intermediate nucleus of the thalamus, as well as the dentato-rubro-thalamic tract (DRTT) originating from the ipsilateral dentate nucleus, known as the "nondecussating DRTT" (nd-DRTT), are commonly used as targets for sonication. Anatomically, the DRTT originating from the contralateral dentate nucleus, referred to as the "decussating DRTT" (d-DRTT), constitutes the predomi

Tamoxifen Modulates Spinal Cord Injury Repair Via CCL2/CCR2 Axis and its Mechanisms.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) represents a profoundly serious neurological disorder characterized by limited self-repair capabilities and accompanied by secondary inflammatory damage, rendering its treatment a pressing challenge in the field of medical science research. During the acute phase of SCI, the expression levels of C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) and its receptor, chemokine receptor 2 (CCR2), are significantly upregulated. The CCL2/CCR2 axis plays a critical role in regulating microglial activation, inflammatory responses, and apoptotic cascades within the injured spinal cord microenv

Predictive study of machine learning combined with serum Neuregulin 4 levels for hyperthyroidism in type II diabetes mellitus.

BACKGROUND: Neuregulin 4 (NRG4) is a novel metabolic regulator closely associated with insulin resistance and thyroid dysfunction. However, its role in the pathogenesis of comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus and hyperthyroidism (T2DM-FT) remains to be systematically elucidated. Given the complex clinical characteristics of T2DM-FT patients, traditional statistical methods are often insufficient to effectively analyze nonlinear relationships among multiple variables. Machine learning techniques have garnered widespread attention due to their advantages in modeling high-dimensional, heterogeneous

Automated Segmentation and Morphometric Analysis of Thioflavin-S-Stained Amyloid Deposits in Alzheimer's Disease Brains and Age-Matched Controls Using Weakly Supervised Deep Learning.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) involves the accumulation of amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques, whose quantification plays a central role in understanding disease progression. Automated segmentation of Aβ deposits in histopathological micrographs enables large-scale analyses but is hindered by the high cost of detailed pixel-level annotations. Weakly supervised learning offers a promising alternative by leveraging coarse or indirect labels to reduce the annotation burden. We evaluated a weakly supervised approach to segment and analyze thioflavin-S-positive parenchymal amyloid pathology in AD and age-matched br

14,15-EET Maintains Mitochondrial Homeostasis to Inhibit Neuronal Pyroptosis After Ischemic Stroke.

BACKGROUND: Neuronal pyroptosis is involved in neuronal cell death and neurological damage after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion. 14,15-Epoxyeicosatrienoic acid (14,15-EET) can reduce neuronal loss induced by cerebral ischemia-reperfusion by regulating mitochondrial biological processes. However, it remains unclear how 14,15-EET regulates mitochondrial homeostasis, inhibits neuronal pyroptosis, and promotes neurological functional recovery after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion. METHODS: Mice with middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion were used as an animal model to study the cerebral i

Brain bases of real-time social interaction: A meta-analytic investigation of human neuroimaging studies.

INTRODUCTION: Social interactions play a central role in shaping brain function, but neuroscientific research on interactive social behavior has been limited by the restrictions of brain imaging environments. Although a growing body of neuroimaging research situates participants in real-time social interactive contexts, questions remain about the brain systems critical for understanding social interaction. This study addresses three primary questions: 1) Is there a common network of brain regions that underlies diverse forms of social interaction? 2) Are there dissociable brain systems that co
