Currently, there are no accurate means to predict spontaneous preterm birth (SPTB). Recently, we observed low expression of alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) in SPTB placentas. The number of persons taken into psychiatric hospital care during 1982 in France was estimated using data on length of stay and analysing these by the person-year method. The number of observed deaths was compared by sex and age group with the number of deaths expected if the mortality in the general French population in 1982 were applied to the numbers of inpatients of the same sex and age group. A study to assess the prevalence and severity of periodontal conditions among 809 adults in Tanzania was carried out in 1982 in Morogoro District. The prevalence of plaque (99.6%), calculus (95.7%) and gingivitis (93.8%) among them was high. BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) accelerates vascular stiffening related to age. Arterial stiffness may be evaluated measuring the carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) or more simply, as recommended by KDOQI, monitoring pulse pressure (PP). Both correlate to survival and incidence of cardiovascular disease. PWV can also be estimated on the brachial artery using a Mobil-O-Graph; a non-operator dependent automatic device.
