Entrepreneurial and innovative skills in healthcare: Development and preliminary validation of an assessment instrument for Portuguese nurses.

BACKGROUND: Innovative and entrepreneurial competences, defined as the ability to identify opportunities, mobilize resources, and implement creative solutions responsibly, are essential for tackling complex challenges. In the health sector, particularly in nursing, these skills enhance innovation, quality of care, and sustainability of health services. Currently, there is no validated instrument with good psychometric properties designed for nurses that assesses these competencies. OBJECTIVE: To develop a content-valid instrument to assess innovative and entrepreneurial competences in nurses.

Effects of exercise programs on cardiopulmonary function and signs and symptoms in patients with post-COVID-19 condition: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Exercise is increasingly recognized as an effective adjuvant therapy for individuals with post-COVID-19 condition. However, exercise interventions vary widely in intensity, frequency, setting, and duration. To date, no systematic review and meta-analysis has evaluated programs lasting at least 6 weeks in this population. This study aimed to assess the effects of exercise on cardiopulmonary function and clinical symptoms in patients with post-COVID-19 condition. METHODS: We systematically searched for studies involving patients with post-COVID-19 condition in the Embase, MEDLINE/Pu

Association of a difference in systolic blood pressure between arms with vascular disease and mortality: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Differences in systolic blood pressure (SBP) of 10 mm Hg or more or 15 mm Hg or more between arms have been associated with peripheral vascular disease and attributed to subclavian stenosis. We investigated whether an association exists between this difference and central or peripheral vascular disease, and mortality. METHODS: We searched Medline, Embase, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane, and Medline In Process databases for studies published before July, 2011, showing differences in SBP between arms, with data for subclavian stenosis, peripheral

Quality of life and childhood atopic dermatitis: the misery of living with childhood eczema.

The misery of living with atopic eczema (syn. dermatitis, AD) cannot be overstated for it may have a profoundly negative effect on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of children and their family unit in many cases. As it is one of the commonest chronic relapsing childhood dermatosis (UK lifetime prevalence 16-20% by 20 years), with increasing worldwide prevalence, this has major social and financial implications for individuals, healthcare providers and society as a whole. This review explores the impact of AD on the lives of children and their family units and the use of some of the r

Protocol for developing a core outcome set for traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of pharyngitis.

BACKGROUND: Pharyngitis, a prevalent upper respiratory tract disorder, significantly impairs patients' health-related quality of life due to persistent symptoms such as sore throat and dryness. In particular, the recurrent and lingering nature of chronic cases places a substantial strain on both the healthcare system and society. Although conventional therapies dominated by anti-infective and anti-inflammatory agents are widely employed, their efficacy in curbing recurrence and enhancing long-term prognosis remains suboptimal. Conversely, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has demonstrated pot

Natural language processing to enhance rheumatoid arthritis care in clinical studies: a scoping review of applications, data, approaches, challenges and future directions.

Structured claims or EMR datasets have limitations, such as lacking important clinical variables, upcoding, or potential coding errors. Unstructured data powered with natural language processing (NLP) might bridge these gaps. We assessed the integration of NLP with unstructured data in advancing care for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We conducted a scoping literature review search in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Directory of Open Access Journal to identify full-text studies published through February 27 2026. We used the search terms and relevant MeSH terms involving "rheumatoid arthritis"

Effect of Blood Component Transfusion on Vital Signs Among Children.

Children are vulnerable to hemodynamic instability due to their distinct physiological characteristics, including a higher circulating blood volume relative to body weight. This physiological difference reduces their ability to tolerate blood loss. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of blood component transfusions on vital signs among children. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was carried out. All children who received blood component transfusions (60 children). The study was conducted in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Medical Unit, and Pediatric Surgical Unit a

A preliminary adaptation and validation of the genetic counseling outcome scale (GCOS-24) for use in Greece.

The demand for genetic testing and counseling services continues to grow as there is a utility to guide diagnosis and treatment for a range of genetic conditions. Genetic counseling (GC) is a medical practice that provides information and counseling to patients and relatives at risk of recurrence of a genetic disease and helps them understand and adapt to the medical, psychological, and familial implications of the genetic information of the disease. Health professionals working in this field need reliable measurement tools to evaluate the results of their interventions, intending to ensure qu

Association and Prediction Utilizing Craniocaudal and Mediolateral Oblique View Digital Mammography and Long-Term Breast Cancer Risk.

UNLABELLED: Mammographic percentage of volumetric density is an important risk factor for breast cancer. Epidemiology studies historically used film images often limited to craniocaudal (CC) views to estimate area-based breast density. More recent studies using digital mammography images typically use the averaged density between craniocaudal (CC) and mediolateral oblique (MLO) view mammography for 5- and 10-year risk prediction. The performance in using either and both mammogram views has not been well-investigated. We use 3,804 full-field digital mammograms from the Joanne Knight Breast Heal

A stakeholder analysis to prepare for real-world evaluation of integrating artificial intelligent algorithms into breast screening (PREP-AIR study): a qualitative study using the WHO guide.

BACKGROUND: The national breast screening programme in the United Kingdom is under pressure due to workforce shortages and having been paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform how healthcare is delivered by improving care processes and patient outcomes. Research on the clinical and organisational benefits of artificial intelligence is still at an early stage, and numerous concerns have been raised around its implications, including patient safety, acceptance, and accountability for decisions. Reforming the breast screening programme to include

Development of an MSPE-UHPLC-MS/MS method for bisphenols and alkylphenols in personal care products: a pilot study and preliminary safety assessment in China.

As daily essentials for skin protection and cosmetic enhancement, personal care products (PCPs) are used extensively worldwide. Due to their direct and prolonged contact with the skin, any hazardous ingredients they contain warrant serious attention. Although bisphenols (BPs) and alkylphenols (APs) are of growing concern for their known or potential endocrine-disrupting effects, most research has targeted food, water, and environmental samples, with comparatively few methods available for their analysis in PCPs. To assess the occurrence and potential risks of such substances in PCPs, this stud

A behaviour change intervention promoting physical activity following dysvascular amputation: Protocol for a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes-related lower limb amputation (LLA) is a leading cause of disability globally, impacting individuals' physical and mental health, and ultimately their quality of life. Physical activity can reduce risk of chronic disease and mortality while improving quality of life. However, people with LLA often have reduced balance and walking ability resulting in sedentary behaviour. We co-created a physical activity intervention, IMproving Physical Activity through Coaching and Technology following Lower Limb Loss (IMPACT-L3), to support physical activity behaviour change in people wi

Evaluating the Compliance to 24-Hour Venous Thromboembolism Risk Re-assessment Following Orthopaedic Surgery at a Tertiary Center: A Closed-Loop Clinical Audit.

Introduction Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a preventable cause of patient morbidity and mortality among hospitalised patients. VTE events have a high incidence among orthopaedic patients, who routinely receive chemical thromboprophylaxis in the form of heparin, warfarin, antiplatelet agents or direct oral anticoagulants. These can be associated with adverse events, most commonly bleeding or heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. A VTE risk reassessment following 24 hours of admission or a change in clinical condition like surgery is recommended to avoid such complications. We evaluated the compli
