OBJECTIVE: Regain of shoulder function and freedom of pain through arthroscopic fixation of the torn rotator cuff using anchors and tension bands.
INDICATIONS: Isolated full-substance rupture of the supraspinatus. Full-substance tear of the supraspinatus and the superior part of the infraspinatus. Incomplete tears affecting the superior part of the subscapularis, either isolated or associated with rupture of the supraspinatus. For lesions of the long head of the biceps: tenodesis in patients < 60 years of age or in blue-collar workers; tenotomy in all other instances.

BACKGROUND: Since 1999 the platinum chain is being used as implant to correct lagophthalmos, which promises, due to its flexibility, lower postoperative complications. The lack of mandatory results reported in the literature, prompted us to survey all surgeons using the platinum chain in order to learn of the complications they had experienced.
METHODS: A questionnaire was sent to 30 surgeons to survey results and complications associated with the implantation of the platinum chain to treat lagophthalmos. Complications like contouring, migration and extrusion of the implant occurred.

BACKGROUND: Harvest of transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (TRAM) flaps for breast reconstruction leaves a variable defect in the anterior rectus fascia. Inadequate closure of the defect could lead to the development of hernia or abdominal wall bulging. Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries can be associated with other congenital cardiac abnormalities. The development of percutaneous closure devices potentially offers the opportunity to close related cardiac defects without exposing patients to the increased risks of cardiac surgery. This case report describes the successful closure of an atrial septal defect in a patient with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries using an Amplatzer septal occluder.

We sought to evaluate the effects of atrial septal and patent foramen ovale (PFO) morphology on the efficacy of transcatheter closure. We performed a retrospective analysis of all patients who underwent PFO device closure from January 1997 to January 2002. Forty-seven patients underwent percutaneous closure of a PFO with a median age of 45 years (range, 8-75) and weight of 76 kg (range 28-115).
