OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnostic value of MRI in radial head fracture with forearm interosseous membrane injuries.
METHODS: From December 2011 to December 2012,26 patients with fractures of capitulum radial in our hospital were collected. There were 15 males and 11 females, ranging in age from 21 to 53 years old,with an average of 37.6 years old. All the patients visited hospital within 72 hours after injuries. X-ray radiography of full ulnar radial length in injured side, CT in injured side (three-dimensional reconstruction if necessary) and MRI (including the elbow and wrist joints)

For the acute treatment of radial head fractures, radial head arthroplasty can be considered if open reduction and internal fixation is not technically possible and if simple radial head resection is contraindicated. We report our experience with a bipolar Judet radial head prosthesis. After a mean follow-up of 41.7 months, 16 patients were assessed following radial head replacement. A case of dislocation of the elbow and index finger PIP joints, in association with a fracture dislocation of the radiocarpal joint in the same limb, is presented. We found no previous reports of this combination of injuries. There were no neurovascular complications.

In 2 groups of patients treated by bone grafting for scaphoid nonunions, one group had a dorsal or dorsolateral surgical approach with a bone graft from the radius while the other group had a volar approach with an iliac graft. The best results were obtained with an iliac graft. Through the volar approach it is relatively easy to avoid damage to the scaphoid arterial supply. A small proximal vascular pole led to a failure rate of 36%.
