The unintended consequences of modernity: Pollution and its effect on reproductive, maternal and fetal health.

Over the past 50 years there has been an unprecedented increase in pollution globally. Population growth and higher standards of living have resulted in increases in global consumption facilitated by industrialisation and globalisation of goods and services thus resulting in the release of environmental pollutants on a mass scale. This article analyses the effects and consequences of pollution on important aspects of reproductive health including fertility, pregnancy and infant health. It is a narrative review based on a search of PubMed using the terms 'pollution and fertility,' 'pollution an

Healthcare provider perspectives on their role in perpetrating and perpetuating reproductive coercion: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Reproductive coercion (RC) refers to behaviours that interfere with an individual's autonomy over their reproductive health and decision-making. While traditionally attributed to partners or families, emerging research has highlighted the potential role healthcare providers may play in perpetrating and perpetuating RC. This study aims to explore the perspectives of Australian healthcare providers who deliver reproductive healthcare, focusing on their understanding of provider bias and coercion in the context of reproductive decision-making, both within their own practice and among

Reproductive Control in Dogs with Emphasis on Anti-GnRH Immunocastration and Its Behavioral Effects.

Dog overpopulation poses serious challenges to public health, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability. While surgical castration remains the most commonly used method for controlling reproduction in dogs, it carries risks and limitations, including surgical complications and long-term behavioral or physiological side effects. This review examines the potential of immunocastration-vaccination targeting gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-as an alternative approach. Immunocastration has been shown to suppress reproductive hormones, reduce gonadal function, and decrease behaviors such …

Sexual and reproductive health in overweight and obesity: Aims and visions for integrated research approaches.

Overweight and obesity increasingly affect women in their reproductive phase, during family planning, pregnancy, breastfeeding and the postpartum period. Overweight and obesity are associated with impaired sexual and reproductive health, including increased rates of infertility, pregnancy complications, and reduced breastfeeding rates. Furthermore, maternal overweight and obesity are associated with long-term negative health consequences for the child, such as an increased risk for respiratory and metabolic disease. With the Junior Research Center for Reproduction: Sexual and Reproductive Heal…

Medical uncertainty in the shadow of Dobbs: Treating obstetric complications in a new reproductive frontier.

Recent changes to United States medical practice following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v Jackson Woman's Health Organization have led to new forms of medical uncertainty arising from the interpretation and implementation of state law. Post-Dobbs legal restrictions are particularly challenging because they entail multiple forms of uncertainty that intensify when combined, with risks to pregnant patients and to the clinicians who care for them. In this article, we identify and describe three distinct types of uncertainty that obstetrician-gynecologists (OB-GYNs) in states with abo
