OBJECTIVE: To determine whether earlier treatment of high-risk, prethreshold retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) improves retinal structural outcome at 2 years of age.
METHODS: Infants with bilateral high-risk prethreshold ROP had one eye randomly assigned to treatment with peripheral retinal ablation. The fellow eye was managed conventionally, and either treated at threshold ROP or observed if threshold was never reached. PURPOSE: To evaluate with optical coherence tomography angiography the status of the choriocapillaris in the eyes of patients with resolved paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM).
METHODS: Nine patients with unilateral resolved PAMM, 14 age-matched healthy individuals, and 16 age-matched patients with unilateral retinal vein occlusion (RVO) were included. PURPOSE: To report a unique case of congenital simple hamartoma of retinal pigment epithelium (CSHRPE) associated with full-thickness macular hole (FTMH).

Two patients with pigmented paravenous chorioretinal atrophy are presented. Both patients had chorioretinal atrophy with pigment clusters located in the paravenous areas, and one of the patients had macular affection. Case report concerning a young man in whom exudative retinitis had occurred as a result of the A-V shunt of a retinal angioma, leading to sudden loss of vision. With argon laser and xenon arc photocoagulation a minor hemorrhage cleared up spontaneously, the retina remained attached and vision increased to 20/25 within 1 year. The authors believe that the combined photocoagulation insured an interruption of blood flow in feeder vessels and the breakdown of the intervening capillary bed.

A case of ocular syphilis with severe ischemic retinopathy, rubeosis iridis and secondary glaucoma is described. Fluorescein angiography revealed a complete blockage of all the vessels around the macula, with dye leakage from numerous bifurcations of veins and an infiltrative mass in the macular area of both eyes. Combined treatment with steroids and penicillin brought no improvement in this condition of severe, ischemic ophthalmia.
