A novel application of the implantable Port-a-Cath (PAC) system is described in the context of cellular transplantation. A silicone catheter was inserted in a collateral branch of the portal vein and connected to a port device positioned subcutaneously on the left thoracic cage. This permanent vascular access allowed iterative intraportal infusions of allogenic hepatocytes without the need of repeated transhepatic catheterization of the portal vein. A case of unilateral virginal breast hypertrophy with a review of the etiological factors and treatment modalities is presented. A 16-year-old girl presented with progressive enlargement of the left breast of 5 months' duration. The result of the mammographic examination was consistent with cystosarcoma phyllodes. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy revealed giant fibroadenoma. A custom-designed, titanium medial canthal tendon screw (MCTS) was used successfully to correct telecanthus in three patients--two with blepharophimosis syndrome and one with congenital telecanthus. Many different materials have been used to provide augmentation of the nasal dorsum. This includes both autogenous and homogenous materials, as well as allografts. Many times autogenous material is not readily available and homogenous materials have recently demonstrated significant absorption. The basic principle of "reversible gastric banding" as a new surgical approach to morbid obesity treatment is the creation of a small fundus reservoir using a silicone cuff which is coiled around the stomach close to the cardia. Daunorubicin has been used in the treatment of advanced cases of human posttraumatic proliferative vitreoretinopathy. To reduce the failure rate of trauma surgery from proliferative vitreoretinopathy recent efforts have been directed toward the pharmacologic inhibition of cellular reproliferation. We administered intravitreal daunorubicin to 15 patients after vitrectomy and before silicone oil or gas injection. A preliminary report is given for total joint replacement arthroplasty utilizing a silicone-polyester prosthesis, in selected cases of destroyed metatarsophalangeal joints of the great toe.
