Melioidosis is a protean disease which is endemic to Southeast Asia and northern Australia. Here, we report a case of infected aortic aneurysm due to Burkholderia pseudomallei in an immunocompetent man 6 months after a trip to northern Malaysia. This patient initially received inappropriate surgical and antibiotic treatment, leading to a peri-prosthetic aortic infection with lumbar spondylitis and contiguous psoas muscle abscess. Lumbar chance fracture after direct anterior total hip arthroplasty.

This report describes a patient with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) who underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA) by the direct anterior approach and sustained a L4-5 extension fracture dislocation with neural deficits. A magnetic resonance imaging revealed an epidural hematoma at the site of the fracture causing critical stenosis. The paper presents the results of examination of spinal fluid in tuberculous spondylitis (n = 83), its sequelae (n = 58), spinal osteomyelitis (n = 25) for the levels of tuberculosis antibodies (TAb) by applying the routine enzyme immunoassay, specially adapted to this biological object, and immunoglobulins. An attempt has been made to improve diagnostic precision in a group of diseases associated with inflammation of the sacroiliac joints by using a 99mtechnetium stannous pyrophosphate bone scan. Inflammation of these joints is associated with osteoblastic activity and is reflected by an increase in the uptake of radionuclide, which can be precisely quantitated.
