Our aim was to determine the prevalence of the intestinal bacteria: Lawsonia intracellularis, Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, Serpulina intermedia, Brachyspira innocens, Brachyspira pilosicoli, pathogenic Escherichia coli (serogroups O138, O139, O141 and O149) and Salmonella enterica in Danish finishing pig herds. Macroscopic nephropathy was observed in 506 pigs at slaughter in Bulgaria in 1993/94. Histopathological changes were mainly degenerative and proliferative, and were linked with kidney hypertrophy similar to that of the classical Danish Syndrome. This study evaluated the histologic response of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) following one side posterior teeth extraction in miniature pig. Right posterior teeth were removed in 12 miniature pigs. Six of them were killed after 1 month and the other six after 3 monthes. 6 miniature pigs were taken as control. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the reliability of current and proposed methods for the inspection of swine and other species for infection with the parasite Trichinella spiralis. Five groups of pigs were infected with doses of 2500, 500, 100, 50, and 20 T. spiralis larvae to establish moderate and low-level infections. Pigs were bled periodically during the study for samples to be tested by enzyme immunoassay (EIA). Crystals of virus-like particles (VLP) are described as occurring in the nuclei of damaged tegumentary cytons from carcasses of Taenia solium metacestodes that had been stripped of their teguments.
