Although posterior urethral valves is a well known and important entity in paediatric urology, its association with bladder calculi is not well documented and this condition is not discussed commonly in the literature. Association between posterior urethral valves and vesicolithiasis is presented in three children.

We report the fifth case of congenital prepubic sinus that goes from the anterior wall of the bladder through the public symphysis to the skin. The various embryological theories that could be responsible for this pathology are discussed, and according to us, it seems to be a variant of dorsal urethral duplication.

Posterior urethral valves are an important cause of obstructive uropathy in the newborn. The diagnosis may be suspected on prenatal ultrasonography, the consistent finding being bilateral ureterohydronephrosis together with a thick-walled, persistently full bladder in a male fetus. There may also be variable degrees of oligohydramnios. This paper reports the case of siblings in whom posterior urethral valves were recognized prenatally. The first child progressed well after appropriate surgical management, but the second died within 24 h of birth.

We report on 25 children who underwent repair of distal hypospadias with the meatal advancement and glanuloplasty technique. The principles of this operation were safe and there were no complications. Meatal advancement and glanuloplasty proved to be a successful and reliable procedure in the properly selected child with distal hypospadias.

4 children with anterior urethral valve were treated by TUR-Valve. Before TUR, valve anatomy could be easily seen by antegrade urethroscopy through cystostomy using a 10.8Fr caliber flexible renoureteroscope and destruction of the valve could be recognized after TUR. After transurethral resection across the ureteral ostium a scared stenosis or complete occlusion is possible and its transurethral recanalization is dangerous. Therefore, a new concept with utilisation of laser light is presented. After percutaneous renal punction the laser light fiber is placed antegrade into the ureter near the stenotic ostium and the stenosis is resected transurethrally under fluoroscopy onto the laser light spot. Thereafter a splint is placed transrenal into the bladder for 3 weeks. The presented technique could minimize the operative expense.

Biofilms were present on 16 of 33 urethral catheters examined. In 11 cases the catheter carried a different microbial flora from that of the bladder urine. The length of time the catheter was in situ did not influence biofilm formation, and all types of materials tested supported biofilm growth. Biofilms were seen on 2 of the 7 catheters where prophylactic antibiotics had been used.

Nine boys were found to have hypospadias despite the presence of a complete prepuce. The urethral meatus was in the subcoronal position in six boys, the distal shaft position in one boy and on the corona glandis in two boys. Although it is generally thought that boys with hypospadias have a dorsal hooded prepuce resulting from incomplete development of the ventral phallus, we have found hypospadias in boys with complete preputial development. A neonate with persistence of the urogenital sinus, double vaginae and hydrometrocolpos, in association with an anterior perineal anus, ambiguous genitalia and a ventricular septal defect, is described. Abdominal ultrasound led to an early diagnosis which prevented morbidity and mortality from renal failure and unnecessary laparotomy. Drainage was achieved by a perineal procedure.

We calculated the predictive values of single urodynamic parameters with regard to five urodynamic diagnoses: genuine stress incontinence, mixed incontinence, motor urge incontinence, sensory urge, and no incontinence demonstrable.
