Cystometry is increasingly being used in infants to diagnose bladder dysfunction. However, infantile urodynamic patterns have not been fully established. Urinary retention necessitating catheterization is the presenting complaint for a significant minority of men requiring surgical therapy for bladder outlet obstruction. A total of 67 men presented in acute or chronic urinary retention and underwent Nd:YAG laser prostatectomy. Bladder neck closure may be beneficial in patients with refractory urinary incontinence secondary to outlet deficiency. The location of the bladder neck deep within the pelvis may make exposure difficult during an open approach. We describe a novel approach to bladder neck closure in patients with anorectal malformations using a posterior sagittal approach. This article reviews the case histories of 236 patients who had cystoscopy as part of their major vaginal operations. Seven had cystoscopically detected potential lower urinary tract injuries. Five of these injuries were ureteral obstructions, one occurring after anterior repair, three associated with a McCall culdoplasty, and one associated with a modified Pereyra bladder neck suspension. During the last 8 years we localized 725 urinary tract infections in 213 patients via the bladder washout test. With this test the infections were located in the upper urinary tract in 11.9 per cent of the patients without vesicoureteral reflux, 27.1 per cent with reflux and 25.3 per cent without reflux after a successful antireflux operation. Between January 1985 and June 1995 a total of 12 patients (9 female, 3 male) underwent total reconstruction of the lower urinary tract using gastric tissue. BACKGROUND: Paragangliomas (PGL) are rare neuroendocrine tumors derived from the autonomic nervous system paraganglia. Urinary bladder paragangliomas (UBPGL) originate from the sympathetic neurons of the urinary bladder wall and represent 0.7% of all paragangliomas and <0.05% of all bladder tumors. INTRODUCTION Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) of the kidney and bladder are among the most commonly performed POCUS scans in rural New Zealand (NZ). AIM To determine the quality, safety and effect on patient care of POCUS of the kidney and bladder in rural NZ. METHODS Overall, 28 doctors in six NZ rural hospitals completed a questionnaire both before and after undertaking a POCUS scan over a 9-month period.
