Mouse exophthalmic chronic orbital inflammatory disease. Induction by human leucocyte intracellular Mollicutes.

Mollicutes are cell wall deficient bacteria which may be overlooked or confused with viruses because of indistinct light microscopic morphol … lation of those MLO containing human vitreous into mouse eyelids produces chronic cardiac and uveal vasculitis with orbital inflammation. Similar MLO are found within the mouse lesional leucocytes. This report describes the chronic orbital inflammation with vasculitis in 67 of 100 of those MLO inoculated mice versus 0 of 200 controls (P less than 0.05). Exop …

The changes in pyroptosis-related inflammatory factors in the peripheral blood of patients with Henoch-Schonlein purpura.

BACKGROUND: Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) is a common capillary allergic bleeding disease. To explore the variation of pyroptosis-related inflammatory factors level in the peripheral blood of patients with HSP. METHODS: A total of 87 HSP patients treated in our hospital from June 2020 to March 2021 were selected and divided into the renal impairment group (n=29) and the non-renal impairment group (n=58) according to the presence of hematuria and proteinuria. A total of 50 healthy individuals from the hospital were selected as the control group. The renal impairment and non-renal impairment g

Multiple roles for neutrophils in atherosclerosis.

Because of their rare detection in atherosclerotic lesions, the involvement of neutrophils in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis has been largely denied. However, over the past couple of years, studies have provided convincing evidence for the presence of neutrophils in atherosclerotic plaques and further revealed the causal contribution of neutrophils during various stages of atherosclerosis. This review describes mechanisms underlying hyperlipidemia-mediated neutrophilia and how neutrophils may enter atherosclerotic lesions. It also highlights possible mechanisms of neutrophil-driven ath

Re-evaluation of 129 patients with systemic necrotizing vasculitides by using classification algorithm according to consensus methodology.

Recently, a new classification algorithm (CA) for systemic necrotizing vasculitides was proposed by Watts et al. (Annals Rheum Dis 66:222-227, 2007) by using the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), Chapel Hill Consensus Criteria (CHCC) and Sorensen surrogate markers (So). We aimed to validate CA in our patients. One hundred twenty-nine patients followed up in our vasculitis clinic were reclassified according to CA in different categories (ACR or Lanham criteria in "1" for Churg-Strauss Syndrome (CSS); ACR in "2a"; CHCC-Wegener's granulomatosis (WG) in "2b"; CHCC-microscopic polyangiitis (M…

[Primary agiitis of central nervous system].

The common clinical manifestations of the primary agiitis of the central nervous system include burst of headache, dementia, change of aptitude, paralysis of cranial nerves, and recurrent focal depletion of the neural function. Lptomeningeal and brain biopsy are still the gold criteria for diagnosis. The prognosis may be improved after cortin and immunosuppressant therapy.

[Abdominal and digestive manifestations in systemic vasculitides].

Digestive involvement is frequent during the course of systemic small and medium-sized vessel vasculitides. Clinical manifestations range from rapidly regressive abdominal pain to surgical manifestations associated with poor prognosis. These are usually associated with extra-abdominal signs, reflecting vasculitis activity. Isolated gastrointestinal involvement is observed in only 16% of these patients. The main clinical manifestations are common to all vasculitides (ischemia, bowel infarction and perforations, gastrointestinal hemorrhage due to mucosal ulcerations or aneurysmal ruptures), but …

The rheumatic poison: a survey of some published investigations of the immunopathogenesis of Henoch-Schönlein purpura.

Laboratory studies of the pathophysiology of Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) have become more numerous in recent years with the recognition of the disease's links with the mucosal immune system in general and IgA nephropathy in particular. There are weak genetic associations with C4 null phenotypes and with HLA B35 and DR4. Studies of plasma proteins in HSP patients show an increased IgA concentration, activation of the alternative pathway of complement and consumption of factor XIII. High molecular weight (polymeric) IgA has been detected in affected individuals, which some investigators have
