BACKGROUND: Clinical recognition of vestibular migraine (VM) is still hampered by the lack of consensus diagnostic criteria. The aim of this study is a long-term evaluation of clinical criteria for definite (dVM) and probable (pVM) vestibular migraine.
METHODS: We re-assessed 75 patients (67 women, age 24-76 years) with dVM (n=47) or pVM (n=28) according to previously published criteria after a mean follow-up of 8.75±1.3 years. Assessment included a comprehensive neurotological clinical examination, pure tone audiometry and caloric testing.

METHODS: Sixty-five patients with more than eight seizures during an 8-week baseline were randomized to three prespecified plasma levels (low, 6 micromol/L [2 mg/L]; medium, 31 micromol/L [10.5 mg/L]; and high, 56 micromol/L [19 mg/L]). Blood loss during and after tonsillectomy was assessed in 80 patients, 40 of whom were treated with tranexamic acid. A statistically significant reduction of blood loss (28%) was observed in this group during operation. Later bleedings occurred only in 27.5% (control: 67.5%) and stopped after 2 h (mean of control: 5.6h).
