The sonolytic degradation of alkylphenols (APs), such as butylphenol, pentylphenol, octylphenol, and nonylphenol (NP), in water was investigated at a sound frequency of 200 kHz with an acoustic intensity of 6 W cm(-2) under argon, oxygen, and air atmospheres. The sonolytic degradation rate of the APs under the conditions of the present study depended upon their alkyl chain length. Transfer hydrogenation of a variety of different imines to the corresponding amines by propan-2-ol in benzene catalyzed by [Ru2(CO)4(mu-H)(C4Ph4COHOCC4Ph4)] (1) has been studied. This study reports the results of cyclosporine A (CsA) treatment in 106 children with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome. All of them had normal renal function. In 66 CsA was added to prednisone because of primary steroid-resistancy. Remission was obtained in 31 (47%) and improvement in 23 (35%). In 12 patients (18%) CsA was ineffective. Treatment of human platelets with the alkylating agent N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) induces arachidonic acid release. The effect was time- and dose-dependent. PURPOSE: Because more than 70% of children with cancer become long-term survivors, more emphasis is put on reducing late effects. Cryopreservation of semen and the intracytoplasmic sperm injection technique makes it possible to obtain pregnancy with very poor sperm quality.
